Further miracles of a thoroughly functional rail system. Deutsche Bahn notified me en route that my connecting train from Köln to Bielefeld was cancelled. In a truly amazing world, they would have reached into the app and updated my ticket to a new train and reservation on the fly, but as it was, the staff at Köln stamped my (printed paper backup) ticket and printed off the new route. All of 45' delay.
So so far that's one traveller-caused error that didn't break the schedule, and one cancelled train that was handled efficiently and led to a minor delay. I'm still going to make it in under 24 hours.

We're waiting in Waverly for all the pieces of the southbound sleeper. Here's a view from the rear of this part, looking at what I suspect is another bit of our train - and sure enough, it was just shunted down and coupled.

#CrossBorderRail #AberdeenToBielefeld first leg done: I cycled from Bridge of Don to Union Station on a folding bike at night with a bright yellow suitcase (matches the jacket!) strapped onto the luggage rack. It definitely got me some odd looks from the partying students.
The new Caledonian Sleeper seated accommodation is really good!
