Today, 23 August, marks the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. We honour the millions of victims of the transatlantic slave trade and reflect on the historical significance of the 1791 uprising in Saint Domingue. This rebellion led to the abolition of the trade and the establishment of Haiti. It remains a vital moment in the recognition of human rights and dignity. We must use this day to study our history and remember the impact of these events.
