  1. The local artists' co-op is offering a 4 part course about promoting work on social media. I took a quick look and decided that I did not want to waste roughly 8 hours (including travel time) and $40 for someone to tell me — via a PowerPoint presentation, I'm sure — that I NEED to waste time on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

I admit that I'm very close to opening a Facebook account for my jewelry business, but my fears of getting sucked back into that hell hole are holding me back.

  2. Wide awake at 3:30 AM. It's only going to get worse as darkness starts earlier and earlier. May as well make my coffee.

  3. Salon says:
50-year study of tax cuts on wealthy shows they always fail to “trickle down.”
Tax cuts for the rich increase inequality and don’t grow the economy or decrease unemployment, research shows.

    No shit.

  4. I bought a beef roast at the supermarket the other day. Nice looking piece of meat on sale because of a fast approaching "Sell Buy" date. $25 marked down to $15. I've got it on the stove now, slow cooking for two hours so far with carrots and potatoes and onions from my garden. I'll add some wine before finishing it. I expect to get at least three meals out of it, which isn't bad. Best of all, my house smells amazing.

  5. Organized my CabKing, tile saw, and flat lap on rolling carts just inside my garage. I can easily pull them out onto my driveway apron or over the drain in my garage floor (if the boat isn't blocking it) to use them without making a mess in my studio. I'll be selling the tile saw (and all my tiling equipment) to replace it with a trim saw. I'll cover the smaller cart with an inverted Chewy box to keep the dust off. The green shelf beyond them is my copper etching setup.

  6. US healthcare! You gotta hate it!

It just took me more than 20 minutes to make an appointment for an MRI of my hand. The soonest appointment I could get was 6 AM on November 12, about a month away.

  7. The other purchase I'll probably go through with is a low budget intarsia machine. These machines normally sell for over $1000 but I'm definitely not budgeted for that. This one on Etsy looks a little makeshift, but it's gotten some good reviews. It'll also cost under $250 with two blades, delivered. etsy.com/listing/1891308860/6-

Photo shows a very boring photo from the listing as well as an excellent photo of the device actually set up and in use in someone's shop.

  8. Well, it looks like I'm going to add this trim saw to my collection of lapidary equipment: hitechdiamond.com/collections/ It's on sale right now for a whopping $30 off, but I'm going to try to buy it through the school to maybe get a better deal for me and some profit for them. Amazingly, this saw is made in the US, which probably accounts for its higher price over some of the options available on Etsy or Amazon.

  9. I can't believe it's already 8 o'clock. I'm getting out of bed later and later every morning and calling it quits for the day earlier and earlier every evening. It's only going to get worse until the solstice and then it'll take a long time to get better.

The one thing I do like about this time of year is the sun coming in through my clear story windows, which face south. It really lights up my living space.

  10. Washington, a vote by mail state, has a handy website for keeping track of our ballots. I just checked in, wondering when my ballot was going to arrive. It looks like they mailed them out yesterday so I might get it today. Another page tracks the receipt and tabulation of my vote.

  11. RE: alaskan.social/@EyeOnAlaska/11

As Chuck surely knows, a vote for a republican is a vote for a Trump enabler. If you can't vote blue but you hate Trump, please don't vote at all.

  12. I wheeled my CabKing out onto the driveway, cleaned it and its heavy duty plastic cart, and filled the water source bucket with a mix of vinegar and tap water. The vinegar is necessary to keep the water valves from clogging up; I was really surprised to see that they weren't clogged when I first ran everything up. Now it's just a matter of organizing all the related equipment in closed plastic bins to keep the dust and pests out. At this point, it's good to go.👍🏻

  13. Up at 4:15 AM. That's pretty close to normal.

  14. Well, I had a three hour nap this afternoon. If that doesn't get me back in the right time zone, I don't know what will. My goal is to sleep until 5 AM tomorrow. I'm going to try to stay up until 10 tonight.

  15. Doctor admits that it might not be trigger finger after all. She's sending me for an MRI and has given me a referral to the infectious disease department. I'm still thinking it has to do with barnacle splinters that I got in that finger in the beginning of July. They were from live barnacles, not dead ones. That means barnacle guts could have gotten under my skin, too.

  16. Ok, enough of this. I'm all caught up. Time for Morning Pages. Then a shower and my long awaited doctor's office visit. I have not taken any ibuprofen or Tylenol this morning so that my finger can be swollen and discolored in all its glory for the doctor to see.

  17. This isn't the only upgrade I'm doing this autumn. I'm having the boat detailed and ceramic coated, which will protect the paint and finish and prevent fading. It'll also increase the marketability of the boat when it's time to sell. The ceramic coating should last at least five years, especially if I continue to stow the boat in my garage every winter.

The cost of this entire upgrade should be covered by charter revenues for the end of September and October. (3/3)

  18. I just ordered most of the parts necessary to upgrade the #solar on my #boat from 160 W to 400 W. I'll be pulling off the old panel and replacing it with two marine grade 200 W panels. I'll save the old panel for installation on a future RV or maybe my utility trailer, which has batteries and an inverter. The solar upgrade is going to be done by Martin, a fellow Ranger Tug owner who runs the Channel Surfing channel on YouTube. #boating (1/3)

  19. The crazy thing is that the marine grade stainless steel brackets I need to hold the panels in place cost more than the panels. Costs so far:
    Renogy Solar Panels 400 Watt N-Type $352.99
Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT Charge Controller 150V, 35A $152.90
8 Hinged split side rail mount w/hex head bolt, 1" $418.03😳

Martin will build out my existing panel rack with more materials and bill me for that and his labor. With 400 W of solar on the roof, I should never need shore power again. (2/3)

  20. Here is an interesting machine learning (and not in a bad way) experiment on restaurant reviewa, and not only because of this bit

"Btw, I briefly considered classifying Pret A Manger as French, just to see if it would make any French people angrier at me than they already are. I didn’t. But I thought about it."
