Paper publication day is one of my favourite days! Our paper on wildfire ash chemistry is out today and #OpenAccess in the #AGU journal 'Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems.' We analysed the inorganic and organic chemistry of wildfire (and prescribed burn) ashes from 4 karst areas in Australia and found that ash chemistry varies with burn severity and sampling location. Another team effort from #ANSTO, #UNSW, #UWA, #GNSScience colleagues (👋 @Andbaker )

The Juxtaposition of Light
These tiny insects create light through a chemical reaction involving luciferin and oxygen. It is nearly 100% efficient light, meaning almost no energy is lost as heat. It’s a miracle of organic chemistry occurring right at our feet.

The term biochar had not been coined back then, but I wish the experiments outlined in Liebig's 1840 book 'Organic Chemistry in its Application to Agriculture and Physiology' would have generated greater interest starting back in the 19th century. #CDR dn711509.ca.archive.org/0/items/orga...

Excellent #OrganicSynthesis is the basis of many #ChemBio projects. Nevertheless, we often do not present much of our synthesis. I am excited to be at the Dutch Symposium on Organic Chemistry #Lunteren2026, where synthesis will take the center stage. #ChemSky #OrganicChemistry #Science #Conference

Therefore, I am very happy to be at the Dutch Symposium on Organic Chemistry #Lunteren2026, where organic synthesis will take the center stage for the next 2 days.
