  1. These watches bring out the kid in me — the kid whose grandfather brought him a calculator when he was in the hospital and it might as well have been a Nintendo Switch. I think it’s the ridiculous but lovable dials. The adult me likes the simple suite of functions and the chunky size, which actually looks right at home on a large wrist.

  3. Because of how small, obstructed, and illegible the digital information is, this is essentially a watch with no modes or functions. They should have had the courage of their convictions and just released it as a pure analog time keeper.

  4. Don't ask me why I felt compelled to try to reproduce the "Ipcress noise" from the The Ipcress File, 1965. It's not perfect — there was something that sounded like filter warble that, sadly, I wasn't able to replicate. Otherwise, I tried to be accurate.

I trust this will not be put to injurious use and I hereby disclaim all liability for damage caused by the misuse of the sound material here disseminated.

  5. Very pleased with this. Nice packaging, very good transfer, and a wealth of commentaries and documentary extras. Another one of those blurays that feels like a small course in #physicalmedia form.

I like this film very much, though the Arthurian mythology does most of the work in making the film interesting. It’s impossible to streamline all of the fragmented and contradictory source legends into a flowing narrative arc, but each section has its resonance and it’s never boring.

  7. Oldie but a goodie. After nearly ten years, the digits and light are not quite as bright, but it’s still pretty good. Very light for its size.

  14. I have to say: though mid-70s luchador movies with other stars are made in a more dynamic, less boxy way, demonstrating — to my eyes — the influence of Italian movies, they are missing the special #Santo charm. In terms of acting and line delivery, there is nothing to separate one luchador from another. But at the risk of getting metaphysical, there’s something about Santo’s shape and the way he runs and the way he holds himself. He’s a unique screen presence.
