@danie10 Ja, #OpenUp have done excellent work there, as well as with Vulekamali, National Treasury's more general portal (https://vulekamali.gov.za/) - JD did a great talk on building it at last year's PyConZA - https://www.youtube.com/live/JSfg-H5XIHI?si=Ms0LELiPa0vfgwbu
#OpenCitiesLabs have also done some good stuff, particularly with narrative content on the Durban Edge portal - https://edge.durban/
These are all for dissemination though - I would like to push the envelope, along the line of O'Reilly's gov-as-a-platform idea.

PyData London 2026 is nearly up on us:
https://pydata.org/london2026/
5–7 June 2026
Friday is tutorials day (including TDDA! https://pretalx.com/pydata-london-2026/talk/MRKKWJ/)
Saturday and Sunday are talks.Separate and combined tickets are available.
It’s always diverse and interesting, and is very much about the UNION of Python and Data Science, with lots of non-Pythonistas too.
Lightning Talks are always a highlight (even the worst one is gone in 5 minutes, and most are excellent).
Size isn’t everything, but PyData London is probably the biggest PyData, and certainly the best I’ve attended.
Do come along!

CW: PyConZA thread 11/n
I was then busy as the organisers ill-advisedly gave me a slot, talking about *You don't need a data service, you just need an object store and some JSON files*.
Basically, you can eschew a lot of the complexity of building a service behind an API, if you can actually just get away serving up files from an object store like #Minio, #S3 or #AzureBlobStorage. Putting a CDN in front then makes it really scaleable and cheap!Slides here: https://talks.cct-datascience.xyz/pyconza2024-simple-apis/pyconza2024-simple-apis.slides.html

Wonderful to see not only open source tools being used for a taxpayer funded project, but that the code is also published on Github, with the issues being logged and managed there too. This is really how ALL government funded software projects should be executed.
The code can be re-used at no cost, other devs can learn from the code, and there is no vendor lock-in. It also looks like the project outputs also help better manage where taxpayer money is being spent. They also mention in the talk how the existing Municipal Money portal data was used (another open source portal with an API).
The video linked below is a talk given by the developer at the recent PyCon Python Conference in Durban, South Africa.
