A friend who grew up in L.A. among famous people with a famous father during the Mccarthy era said that kids of blackballed Hollywood folks were called to the front of the classroom and made to stand while the teacher told the other kids not to play with them. So their parents founded their own school, and it's still going now.
I've been thinking about McCarthyism and the sentence that brought it down. "At long last, sir, have you no shame?" I'd love to ask congress.

Rest in peace Sophie Kinsella (aka Madeleine Wickham). Her books brought a lot of people a lot of joy. She died from glioblastoma, an incurable cancer that takes too many good people too young. My friend Bloomer, a spectacular human, passed 3 months after diagnosis. We need to restore u.s. funding for cancer research and rid ourselves of the evil, greedy few who took it away.
