  5. @LordWoolamaloo well my attitude to a cyclist pinging their bell at me is the same as it would be when I’m driving and a motorist behind toots their horn.

    Ignore them.

The Highway Code and common courtesy are unanimous. Approaching somebody moving slower you should slow down, wait for an opportunity to pass, and then pass wide and slow.

Cyclists expect it from drivers and they have a publicity campaign to enforce it. Now we need a campaign to protect pedestrians from cyclist’s #ClosePass

  6. @neald what surprises me is not that the fire happened which I suppose is not entirely impossible, but that there seem to be no diesel backup generators for an airport of that size.
I can tell you that our wee airport on the #isleofbarra is not only older than Heathrow, but is protected by diesel generator back-up.

And we only have to deal with a couple of flights a day !

But of course, our airport was not privatised. It is run by the Scottish government.

  7. When will #cyclists realise they cannot pass pedestrians millimetres away at 30km an hour?
Not only is it highly dangerous, but it’s absolutely terrifying for the victim. I am still shaking.

  8. CW: Politics

@RabBrucesSpider1 I think the people living in Clackmannan and Fife will shed no tears for the closure of Grangemouth. They are downwind of the refinery and have had to put up with overnight pollution for decades.

And I have no doubt that the move from Grangemouth is another #brexitbenefit

Nevertheless, it is very evocative that London are happy to give Ionos money to move somewhere else instead of giving them money to stay here .

  13. @InfraSisters this is excellent! Now all we need is for bicycles to have the same courtesy towards pedestrians….

  14. “Founded in 1296, Veere's first link with Scotland was formed when the Cistercian Abbot of Melrose received from the Count of Flanders the right to export Scottish wool into Flanders duty free. Soon after, Ada, sister of King William the Lion of Scotland, married Floris III, Count of Zeeland.”

  15. If #Bristol is looking for a hero to replace the incorrigible slave owner #Colston, they could do worse than #Plimsoll. The line he invented is on every cargo ship in the world. He was even used as figurehead by the Aberdeen and White Star Line as a bowsprit on their revolutionary iron clipper the Samuel Plimsoll.

  20. @kristiedegaris the riders appear to have stirrups and the horses appear to be moving using the Icelandic tilt - something between a walk and a canter in which the horses move extremely fast but you don’t get bounced up and down. #fulltilt

  21. #Kirkwall really needs to sort out their “pedestrian” street.
Fast, entitled drivers are common especially dropping or collecting friends.
