  1. Some more `git subtree push` quirks:

    • `git subtree push` (obviously) does not push :gitannex: #gitAnnex files to the remote. Syncing annexed files there is unergonomic.
    • `git subtree push` also strips commit signatures (e.g. GPG and as such #OpenTimeStamps timestamps). The truth lies in the monorepo only. Understandable, but very uncool.

git submodules have neither problem, but without tools like :datalad: #datalad you can't commit at once.

  4. Has anyone ever gotten `services.webdav` to work on :nixos: ?

I have a very simple and probably very common task: Expose a directory (in my case `/var/lib/paperless/consume`) via so my scanner can upload their PDFs there. I'm pretty much doing this¹ here, but also this person has problems uploading. I can browse the folder via WebDAV (e.g. from or via ), but anything upload/file creation gives permission denied or crashes clients

  9. @rriemann Re: backdoor, you state:

    > NixOS: affected and unaffected, slow to roll out updates

But the sources you link don't state that NixOS was vulnerable to exploits, if I'm not mistaken. The backdoored code briefly landed in unstable, but wasn't exploitable due to 's unique build system. Furthermore, fixing it locally and distributing the fix without relying on the official distro cache/repos is much easier with NixOS, I would argue.

  11. @alerque Ooh, I have a feeling that this can come in very handy with :gitannex: !

  12. Does anyone here have experience with (not the bcachefs filesystem!) the kernel's block layer cache?

Apparently it allows you to use SSDs in front of HDDs for performance.

  18. @agowa338 Yes, and if you have many files (e.g. with :gitannex: ), then subtrees are not a way to work around slowness.

UPDATE: workaround: Use the "dm Fotowelt" version (not directly from CEWE), that one works and should be equal in functionality

  25. Is there a concept of attaching the exact program used to create a file to the file? Like: I created this 3D model with this or version, with these patches applied, I want to do something so I can re-open this exact model with that exact version , without glitches, 5 years later. I feel, backwards compatibility is not what it once was. Ideally, double-clicking the file would open it in that initial version.
