@chuckwendig The tip of a #nuclear Nike Hercules #missile, obtained during #warhead demil prep ops in Germany (1980s). This "static tube" was slated for local disposal, meaning warhead maint crew members called dibs. This is what it looks like (this one's affixed to a warhead section & isn't mine, obviously). In the same way I also obtained a Nike Herc "safe plug" and an internal part from a nuclear 8-inch artillery projectile.

I was trying to take a pic on my hike of beautiful blooms opening on a redbud tree. I couldn't get the pic right & kept moving around the tree for a couple of minutes. Then I felt little pinpricks at my ankles. You know what that means, I bet.
Yeah I looked down and saw both feet completely encrusted in enraged fire ants! Luckily I was wearing tight ankle socks and tight sweat pants so the damage was minimal but it took a while to get 'em all off as they crawled upward! #FireAnts #hiking

Some babies could experience "reversion" wherein disease-causing mitochondrial DNA could increase over time. Scientists don't know what the rate of this might be. The science is new; babies born from new genetic techniques are human test subjects.

Interesting work funded by ONR to locate "ghost ships." You can run but you can't hide (your emanations). During my career I had many interactions with ONR leaders & scientists. It performs & funds a huge portfolio of work from basic science to applications. It's an institution citizens can be proud to fund with their tax dollars, IMO.

Speaking of security cams I was just reminded of when I went to Taipei as part of a diplomatic delegation, my hotel room bathroom had the oddest little sort of 5 or 6-inch video monitor in it. It didn't seem to turn on at all. A cable that you couldn't disconnect was going from it through the countertop into the wall below. I was mystified and alarmed by this and covered the thing with a towel while I was there! :blobcatfearful: #SpyGames

Since the purse thieves now have my home address, I looked into crime stats in this city. It turns out I live in the lowest crime region of the city but overall we're pretty high on crime compared to the national average. So I decided it was time to buy a home security system. #HumanEnhancement was something I spent a lot of time on during my time in the IC. It's interesting that the European Commission put together these ethics guidelines because 10-15yrs ago I gave a briefing on the subject to my IC counterparts in a European country and they had never heard of the issue & it was nothing they were watching.
