I'm curious to hear about your controlled-by-you webcams.
SimpliSafe also offers cameras, always-on indoor cameras no less, but customer service people cannot answer simple questions about how long video is retained.

I really want to switch away from my #wyze cameras and doorbell to something that works better, but dang the cost is high. My Wyze stuff works…ok…but it’s nothing special. The two way audio sucks on the Cam V3. The wireless doorbell works ok, but is sluggish to start recording (however this might be related to our somewhat subpar placement). The Outdoor Cam is, well, it’s wireless and I’ve got a solar panel for it. That’s about all that’s nice about it.
Ideally I’d switch over to #Ubiquiti but I’m not running Ethernet everywhere. #Ring has everything I want, but it’s Amazon. #SimpliSafe doesn’t have a wireless doorbell. It’s all just…meh.
Suggestions for other options out there #fediverse?

Cable companies used to every several months increase your prices by a couple of bucks and claim they're serving you better by shuffling channels (they weren't). Now other services like #SimpliSafe have figured out this game. Before I cut the cable my monthly cost had crept up to about 3 times what it was when I first subscribed. #greed

#simplisafe is simply not safe. It's a #privacy nightmare. I've looked into their terms of service and here is what I think.

I've been happy with my #SimpliSafe system but just like a cable company I've just been informed of my new increased rate, only $2 more per month, after less than a year of service. A couple dollars more now, a couple dollars more every year until you're up to a hundred bucks a month. No effing thanks. I've been down this road. I cut the cable cord many years ago for this kind of crap. Looks like I'll just self monitor.

Since the purse thieves now have my home address, I looked into crime stats in this city. It turns out I live in the lowest crime region of the city but overall we're pretty high on crime compared to the national average. So I decided it was time to buy a home security system. After some research, I decided to go with #SimpliSafe. We'll see how plug and play this actually turns out to be. #HomeSecurity

After literally years of mulling it over, I finally ordered a #simplisafe home security system. I know it's not #foss, but it will replace my expensive #adt home system. That useless extension called #honey actually helped and recommended a promotion code SIMPLI30CAM which brought my total down from USD 581.26 to USD 332.12. Never again will I call the #honey extension for browsers useless again!
