I got too swept up in the cooking to take and post more pictures, but the dinner was a big success. Our dinner guests were new neighbors and their visiting Indian parents. As a white American guy, cooking Indian food for Indian people is always a risk, but I think it worked out well.
You can never trust feedback from dinner guests because no one ever wants to criticize their host's cooking... but when our neighbors politely declined taking leftovers home and their Indian mother said "no, can we please have daal and naan" I think I can trust her actions. 🤣
And today we're making more naan to go with the delicious leftover we kept.

It never ceases to amuse and delight me how the tiniest friend is also the bravest. All the big squirrels want to be like Chip.

Chip started out the morning a little reluctant and timid, but he warmed up and was back to his usual self. This was the final peanut he took.

There was a cat in the driveway this morning when I got up. He was a pretty orange cat with a stub tail. This was the first time I've seen him, and I chased him away to let him know this wasn't a place he was welcome.
The squirrels and chipmunks came back gradually, but Chip was much more subdued than usual. I had to take his peanut to him.

The grey squirrels are too timid to take peanuts from me... but they are more comfortable taking peanuts from Chip. Thankfully he's more than brave enough to come back for more.

Some mornings I don't even have time to sit down before Chip comes barreling over for a peanut.

He made it fit!!
The adult chipmunks make it look easy, but this is the first time I've seen Chip fit a full-size peanut into a cheek.

Chip came back over a dozen times, seemingly without fear or worry. I stopped getting video each time because I had mulch to put down, but each time gave me real joy.

I suspect that Chip may be developing a Pavlovian association between black metal being played on tinny cell phone speakers (today's soundtrack was Septicflesh) and peanuts.

I had some minor gardening to do this morning before the day got too hot, putting some mulch down around the crabapple tree. Chip and his squirrel friends were interested, but it was mainly only Chip who was brave enough to come looking for handouts.

Chip got my attention and asked for a peanut while I was watering the lavender this morning. Thank goodness I had some with me, or he would have been disappointed in me.

I also suspect that it's his bravery that got him the nose scar in the first place. The chipmunk that gets the peanuts is also the chipmunk that gets into trouble.

I don't think it bothers him at all. It's healing nicely.

I've been assuming that one of them is the brave one and the other is more reserved, but it's hard to tell with friends so very tiny. Today I noticed that the more sociable chipmunk has a chunk taken out of his snout.

There are two adolescent chipmunks who spend time at the feeder area.

He came back 4 or 5 times for more. What a great way to end FY26. 🤣

Chip took a peanut from my hand this morning!!
I'm not sure how obvious it is from the videos, but he's barely half the size of his parents. Unlike his dad who can fit a peanut in each pouch and still carry one in his mouth, Chip still takes just one at a time.

Chip is learning to trust me!
Today was the first day the adolescent chipmunk approached me directly and took food from me. He wasn't quite ready to take a peanut from my hand, but he's never come within 20 feet of me before this.

Meet your idols.
I had my first date with my wife-to-be on the same day I got the new Deicide album "Amon: Feasting the Beast". Being the oblivious nerd that i am, we listened to my favorite song "Sacrificial Suicide" a dozen or more times during that date. Despite that (or perhaps because of it?) she gave me a chance and 33+ years later we're still together.
During the Behemoth tour that kicked off last month I mentioned this story to Nergal, Behemoth's vocalist. (Deicide is opening for Behemoth on this tour, and Behemoth's band members are decades-long Deicide fans as well.) Fast forward to the show earlier this month in Worcester where my wife came with me, and Nergal invited me to join the band on stage to sing with them. A sacrificial serenade, as it were.
Meet your idols. Sometimes they turn out to be awesome, genuine, empathic people.

So sad to see The Amazing Dead Milkmen showcased in this shitty movie.
True story: When I couldn't find a shirt like this, I bought a white t-shirt and a fabric marker and I fucking made one.
Newer, sadder, true story: I've tried to watch this terrible movie twice, and haven't made it past the intro scenes. It's so incredibly bad. I only know about the t-shirt because of the honest trailer.
