So apparently #Synology NASes so super conservative file versioning by default. I kept running out of space on my NAS and deleting things with minimal effect until I finally realized that literally more then half of my volume was taken up by "Synology Drive" files, seemingly all just old version of files in my home directory.

So apparently if you search for "Pikachu" on DuckDuckGo, this is the logo that appears on the top of the page during that search.

How Long to Beat says it takes 19 hours to beat the main campaign. My PS5 says I've been playing for 12 hours so far and am 8% of the way through the game. Not a good sign...

Getting frustrated with Returnal. It's a good game, but very hard. I've fought the first boss 3 times and lost 3 times. And I've been killed by mini-bosses and plain mobs many, many times in between. I do want to persevere, but it's getting to the point where it's more frustrating than fun.
-
I finally had a run yesterday where a reached the first major boss and piece of exposition. That boss killed me, but I'm really getting invested now!
-
Basically all I know about Returnal before I started was:
1) Sci-fi
2) Time loop
3) Roguelike/liteBut it turns out it's also pretty scary and psychological. Also, it's a bullet hell? I didn't even know bullet hell games existed outside of 2D, but here it is.

Finally beat Metroid Dread! The final boss was pretty grueling, but very satisfying to finally beat (ya, I had to look up a guide, sue me). Really amazing game overall. Next game up is Returnal.

Really enjoyed the most recent episode of Darknet Diaries about the Legion of Doom. Recommended listening for anyone interested. It also has a great hook say the end for part 2.
-
Getting lost in Metroid games can be particularly frustrating since the enemies respawn frequently and getting from point A to point B can take a while. I feel like a fast travel system between save points or something would have been very welcome, though it probably would have ruined the pacing.
-
Low point is getting lost. It's a problem I encounter frequently when playing Metroid games. Dread does a decent job of telegraphing which way you're supposed to go, but the in-game map is pretty bare bones compared to the complexity of the space. I've been using walkthroughs judiciously to help me find my way if I get too lost.
-
Highlight of Metroid Dread is definitely the boss battles. They're challenging enough to be fun without being punishingly difficult.

Was playing #YuGiOh #MasterDuel and going up against a Fiendsmith Snakeye deck for the last win I needed to enter the second stage of the Duel Cup. Opponent spent a million years comboing and set up a killer board (2 hand traps were not enough to stop them). I decided to attempt to play through their 4+ negates. I didn't have a chance, but won anyway because they ended up timing out.

It is ironic that #Google and #Microsoft are rushing to integrate #AI #LLM tech like #ChatGPT into their search engines with #Bing and #Bard. This technology will flood the internet with even more #SEO content than we see currently and adding a #chabot to the search engine interface won't change that.

Reddit is uniquely positioned to do well here because it has a large userbase with a wide variety of very focused #subreddits. The large, general subreddits usually have pretty bland and even cringe content at the top of their feeds, but a smaller, knowledgeable community dedicated to a particular topic can use Reddit's #upvote system to very effectively boost quality content.

I've sunk over 70 hours at this point into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (still haven't beaten it, so no spoilers) and it's a really excellent game. That said, it feels so bloated. Remake took me like 35 hours to best (40 with the DLC) and felt like it was a good length. Rebirth is packed with side quests, exploration, and so many mini games.
And it's all good quality content, but it just makes finishing the game take so long if I don't want to feel like I'm "missing" stuff. And even so, I'm not seeing all there is to see.

CW: Minor Scholomance Spoilers
@bookstodon The Golden Enclaves was a real disappointment. It just didn't feel like Novick knew where she was going with the books. The plot is meandering and El's character is all over the place and just feels very inconsistent. The whole book just felt very rushed. The first two books are still excellent but this was a disappointing conclusion. #Scholomance #NaomiNovick

I've been reading more than usual recently and finished the third book of two different trilogies. The #Scholomance series by Naomi Novick and the #FarseerTrilogy by Robin Hobb. Both were very enjoyable on the whole, but didn't quite stick the landing. @bookstodon

CW: Minor Farseer Trilogy Spoilers
@bookstodon Fitz also just suffers so much in this book and seems to only grow more bitter because of it rather than growing as a character. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially since there are more Fitz books coming, but it was still hard to read. #FarseerTrilogy

CW: Minor Farseer Trilogy Spoilers
@bookstodon Assassin's Quest on the other hand was really excellently written, but still seemed like a step down from the first two books in the trilogy. The actual writing might be the best of the three, but the book's paced very slowly until the end where all the dangling plot threads are hastily tied up in a chapter or two. Still excellent, but felt like a bit of lost potential. #FarseerTrilogy

Recently finished, "Tress of the Emerald Sea", the first of Brandon Sanderson's "secret project" books. I won't get into spoilers here, but suffice it to say I really enjoyed it!
