This is the story of a house and the family who lives there. They are not a normal family. All possess different psychic abilities. Well almost all of them. Charley Bryde is the exception.
Her grandmother is the granddame who can tell the future. Her mother is a healer, her aunt is scary, and her sister is the showstopper.
Every year on Halloween, they host a spectacular show for their wealthy clients. They dress in costumes, serve tasty treats and alcohol, and they put on a show that no one can forget. Everyone wants to attend but most can’t afford it.
While Charley dresses in costume, she serves as her sister’s helper. A job she’d rather not have.
Everything is fine until the year that they have an incident.
Afterwards, Charley is left to fend for herself in a house that needs a lot of upkeep and now there is no money to keep it up.
Most of the story is told after the incident. Charley has connected with a couple of people who are trying to help her use her ability to read tarot to keep the family name going. Since Charley reads tarot using her own instincts rather than actual magic, it hasn’t been easy.
The neighbors are not happy when Charley has had to resort to covering part of the roof with a tarp. They want her to be evicted.
Charley also must deal with the skeptics, and the house now seems to be haunted, all while searching for her missing sister and aunt.
This is a perfect read for the spooky season. The women aren’t witches, but it has that witchy feel.
