Not sure who messed it up on the first day and hour of the Reporters without Borders (RSF) shortwave transmissions for Iran, but except for a split-second push of dead air on the hour (or that’s what it looked like), there was no signal on April 27th at 08:30 UTC. My next opportunity to listen was on Friday night (yesterday) at 19:30 UTC, and this time, it worked, even if with a less-than-perfect first minute, where the audio cracked several times.

Tibet

Propagation conditions are moderate at best, but there are remote receivers all over the globe, so I listened to RT Tibet on 11950 kHz this morning. May 1 (and the days following it) is a two- to five-day holiday season in Peking’s sphere of control, and the program was quite different from the usual routine – a feature encouraging listeners to try Tibetan wine from Markam County (after all, "golden-week" holidays were originally ment to boost consumption, although that has probably never reached the levels economists had hoped for).
