  1. 🌿PERSIMMON PALACE🌄

Entsū-ji (円通寺) was once surrounded by such an abundance of persimmon trees and azalea bushes that in past times it was nicknamed 'Kaki-no-dera' (柿の寺 the 'Persimmon Temple') and 'Tsutsuji-no-dera' (ツツジの寺 the 'Azalea Temple').

The temple is now better known for its 'borrowed scenery' garden.

  2. 📖SYMBOLISM🤔

In the language of flowers, 'hanakotoba' (花言葉), azaleas represent patience and modesty.
While this seems odd given their fantastic colours, even in maturity they do not grow to any great height, and for most of the year they remain leafy but plain.

  7. 😋SWEETS🍡

From mid-April 'Iwane-tsutsuji' (岩根つつじ 'azalea rooted amongst rocks') is served in the tearoom.
These sweets either mimic small round bushes, or flowers growing out of rock crevices.
