@zeitkapsl remember if you don't have the encryption key (which is the case with most platforms lying to you with end-to-end encryption bs,) you're not safe. Happy to see #zeitkapsl are doing it right.

#Zeitkapsl offers an #EU-hosted alternative to photo storage services tied to #US-based corporations. It provides various native installers for multiple #Linux distributions, as well as #Windows and #macOS, who we must acknowledge now are companies with questionable practices when it comes to user privacy and data and their tightening relationship with a domestic fascist regime.
One comment: the choice of stock images is disappointingly lacking diversity and for me personally off-putting.

We often get asked: Why isn't there a lifetime plan of #zeitkapsl?
Lifetime plans sound appealing at first, but they’re not #sustainable. Either customers end up overpaying, or the company takes on long-term costs that far exceed the one-time payment. In many cases, that leads to degraded service, hidden limitations, or even the company going out of business, which would mean losing access entirely.
Neither way sounds #fair to us. That's why we stick to transparent yearly/monthly plans.

Bin gerade dabei, ca. 12.000 Fotos und Videos der letzten 20 Jahre von Google Photos zu #zeitkapsl umzuziehen. Kleine, aber feine Alternative aus Österreich! Da das nur per Down- und Re-Upload geht und damit wohl noch bis ca. Mitte nächster Woche dauern wird, hab ich mich etwas gelangweilt in den Einstellungen umgeschaut. Die App war mir schon vorher sympathisch, aber die sehr limitierte Sprachauswahl hat mich noch einmal mehr zum Schmunzeln gebracht. 😂

We said our #zeitkapsl desktop app would launch by June 7 – and we delivered. 🎉
Time to rescue those old hard drives from the closet and enjoy EU-based, end-to-end encrypted backups with a slick UI + link or QR sharing.
For better privacy, we used to stash our photos away on external drives too… but let’s be honest: we rarely looked at them again. It was just too tedious.
