  1. All set for a field day, the aim is to test a home-brewed vertical coil (have an EFHW as backup) with the QMX and zbitx v1, test-driving a Gigaparts POTA20 mast, and the portable ESP32 powered HAM Clock I’ve been working on with the local club. In case, all goes well, might attempt a POTA.

  6. I'd say #LabourDay well spent, finally got around to powering the #zBitx from a powerbank and some bug fixes on the HAM Clock using an #esp32 CYD to get it up and running. A few more fixes and I'm all set for the next field day in better conditions :-).

  11. It was fun to activate the park, managed to get 36 QSOs on FT8, and Rx the HF Nets in India. Managed to make a QSO with stations as far away as Samoa & Poland in under 4W on the #zbitx. Lots of things to plan for the next #pota. I’ll hopefully write up a detailed report.

Not to mention, spotted half a dozen tigers, a leaped and a merry number of birds! A good way to end the year!

  12. I will be attempting my first ever #pota, IN-0067, tomorrow with a QRP setup (given the flight restrictions, etc.), seem to have ticked most boxes with the prep. I'll be on 80m-10m on SSB and #FT8, using an EFHW and a #zbitx. It goes upto 5W. I had previously tested the EFHW during an impromptu trip (ham.bharathpalavalli.com/posts), but haven’t ever tested the zbitx. Given the quirks on it, would be interesting.

Based on the hard work of Adam, K6ARK I designed a PCB which does all the work of the connections and designed a case for it.

I think it looks like a Turret from the game Portal, hence its name.

  15. @N2ADV Maybe it works for you. My brand-new #zbitx is, however, out for sale. I thought it'd be a nice #SOTA radio, but it is a bit too heavy, the screen cannot be seen in the sun, the current drawn is huge, CW is not usable yet, there's a strange RX delay, it does not keep time and needs to be wi-fi synced quite often, and it hangs up on its own after a while. Not a mature product.

Dude, that #zBitx looks like an amazing bit of kit!

    Built in #FT8, too?!

Golf Tango Foxtrot Oscar with that thing!!!

Exactly. #zbitx is not a SOTA radio, (except to warm your hands in cold weather as your 18650s drain). CW unuseable as of now: missed dits and dahs, strange echo after a few minutes (delayed RX processing?). Also, much heavier radio. Screen unreadable in a bright outdoors setting. Even with all the problems (birdies, unreadable in the sun, PCB-mounted connectors, less bands, etc.) my #trusdx is open-source and a better radio. No FT8 though (acoustically-coupled FT8CN).
