Teil 5: Die letzte Meile zur Freiheit
Mein Smart Home hat ein neues Gehirn: den Home Assistant Yellow. 🟡
"Year of the Voice" bedeutet für mich: Meine Stimme bleibt in meinen vier Wänden.
Die Hardware ist bestellt. Der Lötkolben (oder eher das USB-Kabel) liegt bereit.
Die Operation "Google-Lobotomie" steht kurz bevor. ✂️
Fortsetzung folgt...

Well, this is pretty rad in the new @homeassistant update releasing on the 7th. I was able to use the beta to create automations that'll respond, rather than clunky yaml custom sentences. I can now search for something, force an update on the player to fetch name, and then respond with that information. :3

if "voice commands" wouldn't be a broken concept to begin with…
Then #HomeAssistant would STILL be ridiculous, because there's NO usefull #intents around.
And I didn't even find out how to query for state in german. Don't even ask about querying for non-toggle-states (like a sensor value?)
#YearOfTheVoice my ass!

After several hours of head scratching, I finally got all of the #YearOfTheVoice pieces setup in #HomeAssistant. Of course, as I'm using a "core" installation it doesn't have add-ons and nothing seems to be documented for that type of setup. Being a stubborn old fart I refuse to use docker images or HassOS as I have other stuff I'm #SelfHosting on this server.

Weather forecast, handled fully local (except Pirate Weather data)!
Showing this working with a custom sentence and intent I wrote for @homeassistant on my server ^^ Gives the forecast, in Fahrenheit here.
Wanted to show the expandability! I hope to see these become easy to install! #HomeAssistant #HomeAutomation #YearOfTheVoice

Trying out the new Assist Microphone for @homeassistant using the Porcupine1 wake-word detector so I can be like I'm in Star Trek x3
All of this is running fully-local: speech-to-text, text-to-speech, wake-word detection, and intent processing. None of this is cloud-side, and all running on a tiny little Dell Micro box!

@homeassistant Also pumped for the #YearOfTheVoice part 4 stream! My dream is to eventually be able to just say "Turn off the lights" and have it register that the request came from the bedroom and turn off the bedroom lights.
For now though, I'll be thrilled if there's just a reliable wakeword.
That said, major bonus points if I can create the wake word for myself! How I long to be able to invoke turning lights off with "Lord of Darkness... TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!!!!!" 😈

@ggiesen Agreed. Home Assistant integration is a big part of why I wanted one too. I only lost one to Mycroft going under, but still grates. That being said, Neon and OVOS are still developing and #HomeAssistant is really pushing on their "Year of the Voice". I'm hoping that the updates HA makes with the #YearOfTheVoice will make things easier assistants like #NeonAI to integrate. I could be completely wrong about that, but it seems like having some of this stuff built in will ease the load.

Work with Nabu Casa so it integrates well with @homeassistant and #YearOfTheVoice and I'll be picking up one for every room in my house.
I'd also suggest talking to Synesthesium (the lead dev over at https://community.rhasspy.org/ who is also the primary dev hired for Year Of The Voice).

The latest episode of the #homeassistant #podcast is here.
This time Phil and I are talking to the man, the myth and the legend Mike from Nabu Casa about all things #yearofthevoice
This is an episode you don't want to miss 👇

I'm really happy to see the progress on @homeassistant for their #YearOfTheVoice efforts. Leveraging Azure via Home Assistant Cloud is great for the speech processing. But local intent processing is the big deal, and pretty cool so far!
The local speech-to-text and text-to-speech work as well, though much slower currently. Would be nice to utilize a connected USB speakerphone to act as a physical voice assistant besides just using an ESPHome device with the push-to-talk control.

Gotta admit.... Kinda like the idea of "calling" #HomeAssistant to ask it to do stuff. A bit like picking up the phone and asking a butler to do something.
Can't be long until someone writes a simple app VoIP app so you can call Home Assistant directly from your mobile....
Perhaps even the companion app might do that.
Exciting times.

In case you have been living in a cave or something, this is your reminder that tonight is the next chapter of #YearOfTheVoice for #HomeAssistant
-
Well then, I guess we know part of what #HomeAssistant will be announcing in #YearOfTheVoice Chapter 2.

Exciting!

Does someone else have working light intents in #homeAssistant. The only thing i can do with this #yearOfTheVoice is answer incomming phone calls.
