  1. @Edent Revenge Of The Mutant Algorithms! Angels and Daemons. shkspr.mobi/blog/2024/11/angel

A change of pace from the previous instalments: less a story than a piece of meta-level creative writing.

  2. Today I setup a #WritingMonth project for my new novel project that I started last month. I've got a goal of 2000 words in January (setup as of today) which I am very close to reaching, with a goal of 5000 words in February.

Check out my WritingMonth profile here which will show all current and future goals - https://writingmonth.org/~orbitalmartian/

  3. 31. Happy New Year! Take pride in what you’ve written and share the progress you've made!

The year wasn't bad. I finished another #WritingMonth project, did a lot of editing, character development and roughly know where the third and last part of the WIP will go. I like the story.

  4. CW: Longish: 30. How has your writing been this year? Any achievements/wins/lessons you want to celebrate?

I'm not unhappy with the writing I did. I completed another #WritingMonth challenge in November and just finished rereading and taking notes, and I still like it.
I constantly struggle with my impostor syndrome, especially when I see the work of all the fabulous writers here in these communities, but I'm beginning to care less and focus more on actually finishing this WIP. So I plan not to edit too much and rather declare another writing month, maybe in April (that used to be NaNo camp time) and get to writing part 3. The pantsing does things to the plot I couldn't foresee in part 1.

  6. #WritersCoffeeClub 30 Share some good things about how your work went this month!

It was great: I have all of the major scenes involving magic roughed out, including some things that surprised me and an unexpected character, and a lot of the politics.

At this point I have the armature for the front half of the book, and for the back half, and I think I know how the bridge between them needs to work: there was a chapter that did not want to be written earlier.

  7. #ScribesAndMakers 30 How did your creativity go this month?

Very well. I set a goal of averaging 1000 additional words/day on volume 3, and succeeded, taking the text from 79217 words to 109222.

The book is not done: there is a chapter that needs to move to a later volume, and stuff that's missing and stuff that's told that should be shown, but I have the main scaffolding, more or less end to end, and most of the key scenes, which is what I was hoping for.

  8. Well I failed my November #WritingMonth goal. Maybe try again next month? I would like to get better at carving out times and spaces to write even with a barnacle child stuck to me at all times.

  9. On that, I'm curious what happens next. When it comes to #NaNoWriMo / #NovelNovember / #WritingMonth, have you:

  10. Me finishing this #WritingMonth is by no means a sure thing, especially as I have a week of business travel at the end of the month which could easily knock me off my game, but this is the best crack at it I've ever managed.

I'm wondering if I should sit down and read what I've written in one sitting at some point before I finish. Have any of ye grafters that've managed to finish this process tried that while ye were writing it? or only when ye finished?

I will say that I have changed my mind about some minor details and holding myself back from revising is making me twitch a bit, but I have limited bandwidth and am struggling to keep up with a positive burndown as it is, so not gonna fall farther behind rewriting what I've written.

  12. #ThreeGoodThings #Today #Contemplation

🏠 - got up early-ish this morning and cleaned my garage. i filled up the wheelie bin with broke down cardboard boxes, so i'm gonna have to wait til monday to recycle of the rest. but i have a (mostly) clean garage for winter! and my plant bench has been unearthed and my storage boxes are now at least visible, and my bicycle is now easily accessible. hooray!

💻 - started my #WritingMonth story! i'm writing in @novelwriter this year as i've been using it for a few months for a couple other projects and i really love both the simplicity and the options available that it has. i am also using obsidian for my local only journaling which will occasionally add to my wordcount because i am incapable of keeping my thoughts in one place. lol.

🧶🪡 - started a long EZ Surprise Scarf with single nalbinding needle knitting instead of double circular needles knitting. it's been an interesting math challenge to say the least. i can honestly say that i now know *way* more about the construction of a single needle stitch than i did before. lol. but so far i'm enjoying the brain workout and my handspun yarn is soft and fluffy and it's a fun break between cleaning and writing.

but, yay november! it used to be my worst month, mental health wise, but since i've been living alone and finding my own routines, and learning how to embrace stability, it's become a restful and satisfying space in the transition between the wild, external, and busy growth of the summer and the calm, internal, and hand project focused winter that my life has settled into.

this past january i started degoogling, de-IoT-ing, de-social media-ing, and gradually adding a lot of positive friction back into my life in the form of physical media and hands on projects and i can say that it's been one of the best decisions i've made in a long time. it seems so far, letting life take all the time it needs to do whatever it wants to do has been a super good choice for me.

it's weird that i'm actually getting *more* done and enjoying more satisfaction in my work, by letting things take their time and doing most everything by hand, than i did when i was constantly busy and trying to "save time" by embracing friction-less convenience. and also, getting rid of streaming services and social media has gone a long way in regaining my time and allowing space in my brain to just let things chill.

hooray for slow living and embracing inconvenience, contentment, and creative problem solving!

Wildly imaginative extrapolation of lots of things wrong with the world of today, dressed up as futuristic Gothic horror and presented with some dreamlike incongruity.

  15. Hiiiii :ablobcatwave:

I'm finally back with part two of It's Canvas :bunhdheart:. It was originally meant to be released last weekend, but I got distracted with other stuff. :neocat_blush_hide:

In this episode, I'll look at Mod Podge a photo transfer glue, which can be used to transfer photos onto images. :neocat_science:

  16. @annathepiper Reworking goals feels so much like changing the goalposts. It’s not. It’s so not. Assessment time and debriefing projects is not passing judgement on self — it’s just us glamorizing some of our goals over others (like word count). New Month! New Goals! Writing is being done! Every word is closer to the celebration!

"Writing is a tough vocation made all the more difficult by changing delivery systems, archaic business models, and imploding economies. You write your heart out and some clown you don’t even know takes a sucker punch at you in the media, and manners and tradition dictate that you remain silent. But it’s the best of jobs.[...]"

#Schreiben #Autorenleben #writerslife #indieauthor #NaNoWriMo
