  1. Every great story has a protagonist, but the best stories have side characters who could headline their own. The weary mentor with a past too heavy to carry. The best friend whose charisma steals every scene. The villain’s right hand who’s smarter than the boss.#writertip #amwriting #writer

  2. “You have to surrender to your mediocrity, and just write. Because it's hard, really hard, to write even a crappy book. But it's better to write a book that kind of sucks rather than no book at all, as you wait around to magically become Faulkner. No one is going to write your book for you and you can't write anybody's book but your own.” Cheryl Strayed

  3. One of the best (non-fluffy) writing tips I can share is to always write down the ideas that pop into your head. Even if it’s 4 am and you’re half asleep, grab your phone/laptop/pen/paper/scroll and take that shit down. Digital assistants (Alexa, Siri, google) can help make this process more accessible too.

I’ve plotted out many story ideas in a dreamy haze only for them to slip away to the memory underworld.

  4. Something I see a lot of #authors doing wrong on their #website is focusing on themselves first. If you're #querying with no published works, that's fine, but if you have a book (or more) out, you need to be focusing on the books first, then on you.
