I had to renew my roller derby insurance today (Yes we have derby-specific insurance) which means I've been back at derby for a whole year after my 10 year break.

Going back to derby was one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Despite having some big setbacks, it's helped me build confidence, gain a little fitness, meet people, and find a little bit of queer community.

A++, would recommend #RollerDerby

Went to my first derby practice in three weeks last night and holy christ am I sore today. I'm genuinely uncomfortable from pain in most of my body.

We were doing a bunch of toestop work last night which really requires engaging a lot of muscle groups to do effectively. I didn't even make it through the whole practice because I was afraid for my ankles... I can't imagine how sore I would be if I was able to last the whole two hours!

Modified contact scrimmage is coming up on Saturday! I like to pretend I'm a jammer at modscrim so I'm really looking forward to it! Hopefully I get to score some points.

I had so much fun playing in my first roller derby game last night! I'll remember my first game forever.

My first derby game was magical. I got to play with some awesome and supportive people, in a legendary venue, against my own teammates.

I had the fortune of watching a replay of the YouTube stream of the game and it was a really exciting game to watch- and would have been without me too!

I'm so tired but I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep because I'm still riding the happy brain chemicals.

I've waited 15 years for this- I am rostered for my first roller derby game! (For real this time)

Feb 6th I'll be playing in an exhibition bout with all my derby friends at the legendary Rose City Rollers Hangar.

I'll be blocking which means my job will be to play defense and offense at the same time, trying to help our jammer get through the pack while stopping the other team's jammer from doing the same. I'm going to fall a lot, look confused frequently, and probably get yelled at by my teammates. But it's going to be worth every second.

I made it through another full contact practice! I almost didn't make it, but pushed through. #RollerDerby is fucking hard but it's just as rewarding. I'm not the most skilled or experienced out there, but I get a little better every time.

Thursday night I left practice puking. This morning's scrimmage was the most intense derby I've ever been a part of, but it was an absolute blast.

I completely wrecked a jammer and she got up and high fived me.

I got absolutely destroyed at a scrimmage this morning while jamming. Opposing blocker leveled me straight back onto my entire ass, but I got back up and kept going. About 90 seconds into the jam and I finally finished my initial pass and surprise! I was lead jammer because the other jammer went to the box.

I was stuck in the pack long enough that I didn't notice the opposing jammer leave the track, serve a 30 second penalty, and get through the pack before I finally made it out.

Worth every second.

Saturday morning modified contact scrimmage is in the books! I jammed and it was awesome. I really like it and feel like I could get good at it.

And omg the proprioceptive input. I feel so happy and chill right now.

I got to pass the star to my Favorite Jammer when I got stuck behind the pack and wow was that a cool experience.

I've never felt like part of a team before. But now I do. That's pretty wild to think about.

Well, I did it. I had my first roller derby scrimmage with the Rose City Rollers Wreckers.

Mostly I was a blocker but I jammed twice, got lead jammer both times, and scored two points.

It could not have gone any better!
