It was sunny yesterday and cloudy the day before in that part of Greater Houston I live in, but they had two things I did not like: they were dry days. There should have been snow, ice, frost, or anything involving frozen water. Bwagh, here's hoping that February will bring something rare (and safe) in our subtropical climate.

yay! my black-chinned hummingbird is on the feeder, it's 25 deg F right now, i had to rush out at first light to put up the sugar water & i'll swap it out every hour or so until the temperature gets to around 30 (the sugar water freezes lower & slower than pure water)
right now i can see the nectar rising as it freezes so i think i better swap it out right now since he just finished drinking 1/2

Made it there and back through #SnowStorm to photograph a newlywed family visiting the #Poconos from Florida. Memorable for all of us. Three large dogs seeing their first snow in their 10-year lives, nonstop flakes, and that quiet winter hush you only get up here. About 90 miles and 3.5 hours on the road, some local roads still unplowed. At times it felt like driving through Niflheim—thankful for AWD. Glad they found a dedicated photographer.

Oh boy we've descended into the hellish portion of the storm. the snow has stopped at around 7 inches and now freezing precipitation is ours. Not sure if it's sleet or freezing rain but there we are. Tons of it is falling it'll be an icy mess out there potentially for days. #WinterStormFern #PhillyWX #PhillyWeather

There's snow out there, going every which way (yes, including upwards, at least in some spots and on some occasions). Visibility is roughly 800 feet (245 meters), according to Google Maps' "measure distance" feature.
I'm actually thinking of putting on clothes and going out for a brief walk, just to see what it's like when it's all around me instead of on the other side of some windows.

Haven't lost power (yet?) here in west Georgia. I broke out my virtually antique old green Stanley thermos (that thing is nigh indestructible) and made extra coffee to fill it this morning. Filled a bathtub with water too, which I forgot to do yesterday.

Snow has been falling steadily for a few hours now.
We still have power and heat which is wonderful.
When I needed to run a few last-minute errands earlier, many of the floors were soaked with large puddles of water. I’m guessing it was from all of the snow folks are tracking indoors.
How is everyone else doing?

FWIW, we're good here. No current precipitation. No obvious glazing in the back yard currently. We have power, & Duke Energy's outage map looks surprisingly good. I can walk pretty decently outside with minimal care. It's worse elsewhere, of course. #wx #NCwx #DurhamNC #WinterStormFern

#Today I learned that mason jars are not good for freezing water. 😅 I feel like I really should've known that, but I got focused on filling ALL THE THINGS with water/ice to try to keep my fridge/freezer going a bit longer when the power goes out.
The jar has big old cracks in it but is holding for the moment. Soon as it thaws it's gonna be a mess though.

This is your yearly reminder that naming of winter weather in the United States was decided upon by “big weather”corporations and was never sanctioned by NOAA or most meteorologists.
In other words. It’s done for clout. The naming standard is corporate controlled.
