My #Wildsea ttrpg campaign came to an end tonight. And our game master managed to end it on the perfect note.

It was a wild ride that started more than a year ago. And more importantly, the players share a sense of humor, which is priceless.

So yeah, this is one of these bittersweet "I am happy and I know it" moments. ❤️🥲

We are having fun with Wildsea. 😁

For us, It's very character based. We have a republic of spiders. Or an Ironbound wanting to be a bountyhunter, trying to protect her squishies.

Our entertainment ship with sluice jets and a Viper's tooth is the "Acid Trip".

We retrofitted a wreck that drifted into harbour with the help of the local sheep farmers. We convinced them to trade their wool for them, and are now hunting down the fungicide they requested.

Hey Fediverse, pretty soon I'm going to be part of a #Wildsea #TTRPG group. The world of Wildsea is that of rampant plant growth with people riding around on treetops with chainsaw-esque ships, and there are a number of interesting character creation options. Notably #mushroom / #lichen people.
Which is where I'd like to ask all of you #funghi lovers out there for help with inspiration. I'm looking to play some happy-go-lucky mushroom person, with a big ol' cap that flops around like an oversized sun hat. Pictures/descriptions of mushrooms that fit the description would be awesome, info dumps are also very welcome as I'm still missing some key details for the character's "spark" so to say. If you know of anything else that you would like to share, even if it doesn't necessarily fit the above (I haven't forgotten about you #mosstodon ) please feel free.

basically #Wildsea seems to have a Fate problem - too many things are mechanised. There are aspects with variable amounts of ticks, types of damage, aspects serving resistance to something, all aspects being also your HP track, crazy to track ship elements, various resource types and tags on them and whispers and twists coming up like every second roll. As if someone tried to pack in it all of their ideas. Same with the setting.

It's a lot. And I'm sure I'd never choose it to run myself.

I don't have a good solution to offer right now, but I really enjoy the #Wildsea 's approach of "growth as a downtime project", where after healing together as a group - or as a wider community - characters show their emotional development in practice, in a montage away from the "main plot".

Because let's be honest, you shouldn't be able to bump your Empathy skill from shooting a few people, should you?

#ThisWeekAtMyTable I ran an in-person one-shot of #Wildsea.

This game's system is somewhat similar to Blades in the Dark - but maybe a bit more gentle?

And the group I ran for was mostly made up of my old buddies that I quit running games for five years ago, because they couldn't wrap their brains around narrative, non-crunchy, non-battlefest games.

Surprisingly, we had a really good time and delved into some solid RP in addition to kicking the crap out of pirates. #ttrpg

It makes me unreasonably happy to see Quinns, founder of Shut Up & Sit Down, has turned the style, energy and passion he brought to board games to tabletop RPGs with his new YouTube channel QuinnsQuest.

Independently from my own #solarpunk #gaming musings, recently I stumbled into the #wildsea #rpg and I have to say that I am in love with it.

It's a post-post apocalypse of a different kind: the Verdancy caused the trees to grow kilometers tall, mutated animals, created new ecosystems, forced the humanity and other sapiences to change.

It's not a realistic game about the climate change, but a beautiful take on communities, citing Sunless Sea, Bastion, and the Bas-Lag Trilogy as inspirations.

With a 4 metre swell and an incoming tide, standing near Lion Rock I felt increasingly vulnerable, but could not tear my eyes away from this incredible spectacle of nature’s forces.
Both the spray and the late afternoon sun gave the scen a monochromatic look, even though this photograph is in full colour.
South East Cape Bay is at Tasmania’s southern-most point (outside of offshore islands). Getting there is an easy 2 hour walk from Cockle Creek.
