Musical Interlude: Joshua Hedley just released his new album, "All Hat." He's one of the few country artists I follow, largely because of his experimental and retro style. His first album, "Mr. Jukebox," was a tribute to 60s country; his second, "Neon Blue," was 90s-style, and now "All Hat" is a tribute Western swing. It's fun and lighthearted, a rarity today.

I've been listening to KPHT-LP #radio a lot lately. Good mix of dumb #CountryMusic comedy, #WesternSwing, #Blues, country #rock, trucker and CB radio songs, and more. I've heard everything from Jerry Reed to Cab Calloway.
I was worried about their politics until they played a Jim Hightower segment, so they seem to lean left.

When I was in music retail in the 80’s, I met a friend who compiled this tape for me of American music. He airbrushed the tape itself, and listed the tracks in the smallest, but legible writing I have seen. It’s an amazing range of work, and a precious gift that I’ve treasured ever since.

It’s sadly rare in my digging to find a Buddy Emmons track this hot outta the studio. Seemingly when he was on his own he wanted to do more chill jazz, which is cool but doesn’t really do it for me. The other notable exception I’ve found is the version of Unvle Pen off “Buddies” with #violinist Buddy Spicher. Verges on #westernswing and #hardbop
Honestly I probably need to spend some time digging through Buddy as an accompanist. Shoutout to Take for having this.
