hey! we've added yet another webring to the web!
synthring! a webring for synths, but with protogens and other creatures in the same vein allowed as well!
if one wants to join, please check the joining section! for current members, see members (we're still new!).
thanks for reading! hope to see you on the the synthring (and other assorted rings)!
are tags a good idea? yeah, lets do tags.

I agree! I love that idea! I do need to seriously get into webrings a bit more. I guess I just don't fully understand them? Like, I like IndieWeb blog directories far more so if they, WebRings, could be like a collection of websites I can browse with a description or something I can browse in a list, I like that better, far better, than say, hitting next website on the ring. I guess I like to know where I am going! #WebRing #WebRings @natecox

@taatm @molly0xfff the Web1.0 (pre Web2.0 of corporate walled gardens) solution was simple: RSS/email lists + webrings.
it should be adopted by the coming Web1.0+ - a de-centralized, federated internet, ran for and by People, often self-hosted, where corporations do NOT control what we see or can do and access, but now with obscenely fast broadband and stupid powerful processors, running on FOSS =D

Yesterday I came across a website with 1.0 look, and a layout that brought tears to my eyes from the beauty and simplicity of the design.
At the bottom there were a series of #webrings and I started to click on them like a crazy through the various sites, all very nice and with a very powerful retro charm!
Maybe I'm going through a strange time of my life since I'm getting interested in #BBS and #ASCIIart again :D
Help me! 😁

Is there an archive or a #retro documentary about 3D art from the early 2000s? There were a lot of medieval fantasy landscapes, possibly rendered in #vue or #bryce. Before ambient occlusion and HDR lighting. Single light source, generous use of z-depth fog effects. Sadly, I didn't manage to find a lot from this forgotten era of #webrings on today's search engines.
Here's an example of that style. Back then, it felt mind-blowing to me... -
@[email protected] Nobody mentioned the hackable meta search engine yet: searx

There's also a slow decentral search engine: https://yacy.net/

There was a thing called Webrings when I first started making websites. People connected their websites to other websites out of a shared interest. (Not as clickbait backlink farms full of ads.)
The internet was so small back then... only 257,000 sites! 😲 (Compared to 1.1 billion today.)

The maintainer of #htmx is a too-on-twitter meme-lord. I give him shit for it, but it does look like he's having a good time, so I can't say I wouldn't be the same way if you gave me a modicum of fame.

Yet another blogpost with some more rambling on #webrings, the #smallweb, #neocities and stuff like that, following my sudden obsession with web buttons :blobcatderpy:

Spent a bit too much time browsing random sites from many #webrings such as the #fediring and #yesterweb
very fun, again.

90s things like #webrings are new again
In our #opensource #XR testing of #openmetaverse connected worlds we successfully tested jumps across many 3D sites in a webring last week
Walked thru a wide variety of portals between worlds last week in #webXR demos testing a 10-world metaverse social jump with #MetaTraversal
Now to sort out the toughest parts of #UX #interoperability that came up during these load test challenges, especially how we can stay on the same page and in dialogue together
