  6. Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament said: “To hand the Treasury purse strings to a man who demanded a £197 billion increase in arms and nuclear weapons spending demonstrates beyond doubt that the military industrial complex is in charge of Burnham’s economic policy.
“The arms dealers and generals are undoubtedly now in the cabinet. John Healey’s appointment as chancellor will inevitably mean huge fights over welfare, health and housing to come.
“None of the social and economic ambitions — tackling the cost-of-living crisis in particular — that Burnham claims to aspire to will be possible if an ever-growing portion of the economy is devoted to war and destruction,”

Fwiw, that's pretty much where my mind went: if they are framing it as being paid for by cancelling #DigitalID, then we're still in the grip of handbag economics too.

  11. O’bitchuary!

We’re killing all the right people and we’re cutting your taxes.

    Lindsey Graham

It’s impossible not to notice the internet revelling over the news of the sudden death of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. Public sentiment worldwide has been overwhelmingly negative and bitterly disparaging.

Socially acceptable tradition dictates that mocking the dead is disrespectful, especially to the surviving family members. The taboo is rooted in a very old Latin proverb, De mortuis nil nisi bonum (of the dead, nothing but good is to be said).

But what if the deceased person was genuinely despised, hated even, for being a bigot of every kind imaginable? Do supporters of this person have a morally sound reason to express dismay?

While it may appear objectionable in principle, if there was ever a person who justified being roundly excoriated, it was Lindsey Graham. Let’s cut the bullshit! We live in a wicked world, governed by some of the most vile, degenerate people. Graham was high up on that list of thoroughly despicable beings masquerading as human.

Lindsey Graham was an ageing, racist, malicious warmonger who oozed depravity and hate. He seemed to have a natural ability to incite violence every opportunity he got. His paramount life project appeared to be overseeing the destruction of Iran. At the same time, he delighted in being the snivelling little bitch the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu could consistently depend on for immoral sustenance and cheerleading.

In interviews, he wasn’t afraid to express a passionate enthusiasm for bombing poor people, who almost always turned out to have brown skin. That brave exuberance was only sullied by his utter spinelessness when he completely capitulated to Donald Trump after that equally miserable creature won the elections.

Graham’s pusillanimity toward Trump evolved from “He’s an opportunist. He’s not fit to be President of the United States,” to “Mr President, you’re not far behind God, but we’re gonna start with him.” Apparently, Trump wooed him on the golf course, which leaves one wondering if his servility included being the caddy?

I came across a Facebook page today which summed up Graham’s pitiful existence quite nicely:

The Facebook Feminist News editorial was also scathingly accurate in its obituary, and I don’t think there is a better indictment of the shameless legacy of American imperialism, of which Graham was a true believer.

From the moment he hit Washington, Graham wrapped himself in “national security” while reliably serving two constituencies: defense contractors and billionaire donors who profit every time the U.S. rattles sabers at Iran. He sold regime change as “freedom,” sanctions as “strength,” and bombing campaigns as “democracy,” while the same rich circles around him cashed in on endless conflict and fear.

Lindsey Graham’s demise is being described as somewhat sudden with a hint of mystery. However, following Iran’s humiliation of the U.S. in yet another manufactured war, I’m inclined to think the hateful warmonger died of acute embarrassment.

You too will be ignored and tossed aside in this pursuit. They don't care about you and you will never "vote hard" enough to earn even a scrap of respect from them. You are a resource to be used and discarded once used up. This will continue for you and your children unless we end it.

  30. A quotation from Ben Franklin

One to destroy, is Murder by the Law,
And Gibbets keep the lifted Hand in Awe.
To murder Thousands, takes a specious Name,
War’s glorious Art, and gives immortal Fame.
O great Alliance! O divine Renown!
With Death and Pestilence to share the Crown!
When Men extol a wild Destroyer’s Name,
Earth’s Builder and Preserver they blaspheme.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) American statesman, scientist, philosopher, aphorist
    Poor Richard (1747 ed.)

  34. A quotation from Henry Commager

Who are those who are really disloyal? Those who inflame racial hatreds, who sow religious and class dissensions. Those who subvert the Constitution by violating the freedom of the ballot box. Those who make a mockery of majority rule by the use of the filibuster. Those who impair democracy by denying equal educational facilities. Those who frustrate justice by lynch law or by making a farce of jury trials. Those who deny freedom of speech and of the press and of assembly. Those who press for special favors against the interest of the commonwealth. Those who regard public office as a source of private gain. Those who would exalt the military over the civil. Those who for selfish and private purposes stir up national antagonisms and expose the world to the ruin of war.

Henry Steele Commager (1902-1998) American historian, writer, activist
Essay (1947-09), “Who Is Loyal to America?” sec. 3, Harper’s Magazine, Vol. 195, No. 1168
