  1. Huh, I am trying to get visudo to allow me to edit the sudoers file...It's not liking the idea, or the instructions that I followed are leaving something out. Huh, well, best do some more reading before touching that!

All I wanted to do was add "pwfeedback"

Grrrrr.

  8. My #GNU #Linux Journey – Part 1: Discovering the Arch Way

When I first installed #ArchLinux, I quickly realized it wasn’t like other systems. Nothing came preinstalled. No GUI installer. No sudo. No editor. Just a prompt. And that was the best thing that could’ve happened.

    Here’s what I actually learned:

That a Linux “installation” is often just a well-organized file extraction. No registry. No black box like in #Windows.

That #pacman is a powerful tool and #sudo doesn’t work until you configure it. I had to add my user to the #wheel group and use #visudo, a special editor to safely modify sudoers.

That my user password, not root’s, is used for sudo – which felt secure and efficient once I understood the logic.

    I didn’t just get a system running – I learned what a system is.

  9. How to Make sudo Remember the Password for Longer using Visudo

The behaviour of sudo is configured in /etc/sudoers file and by default timeout of the sudo command is 15 minutes.

The /etc/sudoers file has a timestamp_timeout option responsible for reprompting the user for password after specific amount of time. The good news is that you can increase this number to a larger one (in minutes) by adding a string in the /etc/sudoers file. After that time sudo will ask for password again.
