  1. Wikipedia is turning 25! 🎉

For the occasion, we're in Paris for Wikimania 2026.

On Saturday, July 25th 🗓️ our beloved Mariana who co-leads the Decolonizing Wikimedia program, will host a Lunch meetup to share key lessons and inspiration on the #VisibleWikiWomen campaign that has been running for 10 years, and is a rich hands-on experience of challenging the systemic erasure of marginalized bodies and knowledge within digital spaces ✊🏾

If you're attending, come say hi! wikimedia.eventyay.com/wm/wiki

  2. New report alert! 🚨

Our #VisibleWikiWomen campaign has been running for almost a decade, so we wanted to pause and examine its impact, through an intersectional feminist, anti-racist, queer, and decolonial lens.
The result is a powerful collective reflection on knowledge production, community-led documentation, and the power of decentralized organizing in the age of generative AI.

  5. 🏳️‍🌈 This Pride Month, we celebrate our Queer comrades, siblings and community members from the Global Majority!

  7. it's @whoseknowledge's #VisibleWikiWomen campaign again!

    copyright question:

i just went through the list of people from hulme and found this person: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Di

of which this seems a good candidate for a photo from the local archive: (gmlives.org.uk/): gmlives.org.uk/imu/request.php

any idea where i stand legally with uploading it to wikimedia? the photo is more than 70 years old so ex copyright but im guessing this scan of it is not?

  11. As feminists world over commemorate the 2025 #16DaysOfActivism, under the theme, “UNITE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”, we feel like we have been summoned.

This #16DaysofActivism, join us for #16DaysOfTranslation - a #VisibleWikiWomen challenge, where we are asking our feminist communities to translate the Wikipedia article on online gender-based violence into multiple languages.

  12. I love that two amazing map-makers won MacArthur Foundation genius grants this year: Tonika Lewis Johnson, and Margaret Wickens Pearce.

Pearce's work in particular I've been following for years, and according to Wikipedia she is the first awardee in history with "cartographer" as a title: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacArthu

But unfortunately neither Johnson or Pearce has their own #Wikipedia article. Seems like something we could fix!

“The whole endeavor of collecting images, categorizing them, and labeling them is itself a form of politics, filled with questions about who gets to decide what images mean and what kinds of social and political work those representations perform” - Kate Crawford and Trevor Paglen, Excavating AI. 15. Are you attending the #AWIDForum2024? 🌍

Stop by our #VisibleWikiWomen photo booth, where we'll be taking pictures and documenting women and non-binary folks in feminist movements. This is a space to create feminist memories, bring them online via Wikimedia Commons, and show how online imagery plays a role in reimagining a decolonized feminist internet.

Come say hi, hang out, get your photo taken, and talk more about feminist memory-making 📸

  16. Our Decolonizing Wikimedia Coordinator, Mariana Fossatti, and the #VisibleWikiWomen coordinator Sunshine Fionah Komusana joined conversations in the re:shape project with a webinar on open licenses and the politics of sharing knowledges from marginalized communities.

  17. It’s our 8th birthday! We are proud of our work - from bigger initiatives like our Decolonizing The Internet gatherings and bringing thousands of images of women and non-binary people to Wikimedia Commons through #VisibleWikiWomen, to our intimate learning circles about knowledge and tech justice issues. We're grateful to our partners, funders and friends who make this work possible – and to our communities for grounding our work in care, and towards liberation. Images taken by Federico Zuvire.
