  1. Cray collection

we collected a bunch of Crays. The Y-MP EL in front is currently working, the others behind will be restored one day.

    Crays and Cybers

These two will only be for display, but won't be running again.

  2. Perl on a Cray Y-MP EL

Compiling Perl on a Cray is not an easy task, if you only have a few hours every Tuesday. And taking a Cray home, even the little Y-MP EL, is not an option. Neither is letting it run unattended.

The frustrating part is the wait. Unicos does not even have a 'top' command, so ps -efa is your best friend

  3. Siemens KCM – Knowledge Crunching Machine

We got hold on one of the rare Siemens KCM machines. The "Knowledge Crunching Machine" was a joint research with ECRC. The European Computer Research Center was based in Munich/Germany and founded by Siemens (Germany), Bull (France) and ICL

  4. cf77

Und wieder eine "neue" alte Sprache gelernt. Fortran77.

    INTEGER N
    PARAMETER (N = 23)
    REAL C(N,N), X(N)

  5. Booting the sgi Octane

  8. It’s Xenix

While compiling Perl on the Cray I stumbled over the following lines...

    Compiling Perl on UNICOS system

    It's not Xenix...

Hmm... Looks kind of like an extended USG system, but we'll see...
    Congratulations. You aren't running Eunice.
    It's not Xenix...
    Nor is it Venix...
