The following day, #MikeBost, an #Illinois #Republican, wrote to Collins & issued a news release criticizing the image.

The #VFW, which was founded in 1899, says it has used the cartoon [that exact same cartoon] in different variations since the 1930s to #protest efforts to cut #veterans #benefits. The most recent version features a pair of men in business suits, labeled “bureaucrats” & “media,” pointing rifles at 2 veterans in #military fatigues, with the the phrase “Honor the Contract” printed below. The phrases “Punishing Service,” “Removing Benefits” & “Waste and Fraud” are included in the image.

#VFW honored that promise for 17+ years, until finally, today, I received a guilt mailing <https://blog.kamens.us/2009/10/16/the-most-obscene-guilt-mailing-ive-ever-seen/> from them which contained, among other things, a real check for $2.50.

In December 2007 (I keep _very good_ records), I started trying to get Veterans of Foreign Wars (#VFW) to stop sending me junk mail. It was part of the campaign to rid my mailbox of junk mail which I documented on my blog <https://blog.kamens.us/2008/08/17/fighting-junk-mail-one-envelope-at-a-time/>.
That fight took over a year and multiple escalations before finally, in January 2009, they called me and assured me I would not receive any more junk mail from them.

There’s a name for five-time draft-dodging U.S. presidents who object to disabled war veterans participating in parades that honor and celebrate their sacrifices for our country, our democracy, our freedoms. Those presidents are called ungrateful, sociopathic jackasses. To date, only one such disgrace has occupied the Oval Office.
