How close is the link between violence against women & those who are involved in violent anti-migrant protests?.... well according toe the data on those arrested in the protests around the Henry Nowak murder, the relationship is quite close.
22 of the 37 people arrested during the protest (if we can call them that, perhaps rioting might be more appropriate?) had also been accused or prosecuted for domestic abuse.
Make of that what you will!

CW: sexual violence
Another week, another violent offender hiding in plain sight (as a police officer)... (this one has killed himself while suspended & finally under investigation).
Its not hard to see why women still mistrust the police, do not expect them to investigate violence against women & girls properly, and generally are reticent to report crimes against the (female) person.

CW: Violence against women
Its a shocking statistic, but the victims' sons were the lead suspects in 20% of all cases of women murdered by men in the UK last year.... when you add that to the around half of all women murder victims dying at the hands of the intimate partner, then as has been said before, for most women the danger is not strangers in the street, but rather the violent men in their lives.

CW: Violence against women & girls
Here is the count of violence against women & girls put together each year (this for for 2025).
The violence continues even as policing shifts its attitudes & the legal system seeks to increase successful prosecutions.
The problem remains (some) men & their attitudes towards women and girls - this goes beyond toxic masculinity, although that is part of the issue.
Men must refuse to ignore their peers' behaviour(s)!

The Govt. has now launched it strategy to work against violence against women & girls, and helpfully Sophie King-Hill (UBirmingham) offers an overview of what it entails:
1. A major societal shift for men and boys - seeing VAWG as a public health-like issue;
2. Starting early to prevent problem behaviour - focusing on young men & boys to change attitudes early;
3. A ‘relentless pursuit of perpetrators' and;
4. Support for survivors...#women #VAWG #politics

Perhaps indicative of so much of contemporary politics, while the Govt.'s new strategy to end/reduce Violence Against Women & Girls has been welcomed, campaigners on the ground already believe it is seriously under-funded.
And of course, some of the structural problems, not least of all the delays in the justice system that further harm victims while often letting perpetrators escape real sanction, are outside the strategy in any case.

It looks like the Govt.'s strategy to reduce violence against women & girls will focus not just on victims & perpetrators but also on supporting attempts to shift attitudes among young (school age) males (not least of all due to the rising abuse in teenage relationships).
While some of this may take the form of support for parents, its not yet clear how such interventions will work (or whether they *will* work).
But at least the focus looks right!

“Women with disabilities who are exposed to intimate partner violence are doubly affected—both by abuse and by the inadequacy of society's support system. This is shown in a new thesis at Umeå University with recommendations for structural changes.”

Gender-based violence orgs: how much do you know about encryption?
At Chayn, we believe encryption is a feminist issue and a matter of gender justice. Most importantly, it’s vital to protecting survivors of gender based violence. From safeguarding private messages and access to medical information, to shielding activists from state surveillance, strong encryption isn’t just tech, it can be a lifeline.

A short explanation for Home Office Minister Jess Phillips re: why attempts to restrict kids to using “teenager” phones will be doomed to failure
~14 years ago a friend – a highly respected & credentialed security consultant – shared that he’d set up all manner of content filtering & parental blocks on his home network, for the safety of his then ~14yo son.
So the kid went to the local High Street and spent ~£20 of pocket money on a secondhand Android phone.
He said: “I have strongly mixed feelings about this. I don’t know whether to be angry or impressed.”
That’s it. Things have not changed in the time which has passed, if anything the supply of competent inexpensive second- and thirdhand hardware has become even more abundant.
To achieve what the minister suggests below will require regulation of the sales of all phones, laptops, and tablets, not to mention games consoles and IoT, including in the second hand market and on the likes of eBay and so forth.
The likely rebuttal will be “we must not let perfect be the enemy of good” and “if we can save one child it will be worth it” – but this is nonsense, because we also have to forbid software freedoms. You would have to ban installations of Linux – including under virtualisation and with Raspberry Pi – and other alternative operating systems like Tails. And you would also have to stop kids learning how to code using cloud environments which would allow them to circumvent all of this control.
Waiting for “child friendly” software to somehow trickle down into the second hand market is not going to make the child’s safety activists happy, and it is not going to prevent systems being reinstalled with operating systems that do not implement the controls.
Jess Philips, Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls in the Home Office, in the FT today (archived here) says:
The minister charged with tackling violence against girls has called on smartphone makers to do more to embed child protection technology into their devices, as she defended the UK’s new requirements for online age verification.
Jess Phillips said it is “absolutely imperative” that device manufacturers and the developers of their operating systems take greater responsibility for blocking pornographic imagery from children’s phones.
“I want to see tech companies putting as much resource and capability into this as they do into addictive algorithms,” Philips, the minister for safeguarding, told the Financial Times in an interview.
And:
Phillips said: “If there are very easy means of getting around [the rules], then obviously government has to look at that.”
Regulating the second hand market is where you will have to begin.

CW: Far-right, violence against women
Far-right rioters often have a history of intimate-partner violence. Male violence needs taking more seriously.

This shouldn't be necessary, but it is. 😥 Still, if it helps, I'm all in favour! Violence against women is unjustifiable and it must stop. That means men must stop, it's not down to women to protect themselves better!
