@noodlemaz I feel you! ... But I had one single "This should be the internet in my life" moment recently. When I used my VPN to connect over my notebook on my cloud-exozism-performed vacuum bot using SSH in order to perfom a system update. This morment was pretty impressing ;) and all thanks to #valetudo project

GStreamer can now also run on your robot vacuum!
After my dustsrc talk during the last GStreamer Conference ( https://indico.freedesktop.org/event/11/contributions/516/ ), the wonderful @Hypfer took it, fixed a couple of bugs, managed to build it into a single executable, turned it into an actual product, and integrated it into Valetudo: https://github.com/Hypfer/Valetudo/releases#release-2026.08.0
So, right now, Valetudo can display an mpeg-1-in-mpegTS video stream that comes from your robot vacuum. I'm impressed by the pure-JavaScript demuxing and decoding library, but also by the old CRT look and agingTV-esque effects to indicate signal quality.

Trying to sign up for Telegram to ask for help with #Valetudo (dustbuilder doesn't accept my serial num, no other diagnostics)…
…installed Telegram on Waydroid, gave them my phone number, verified my email.. and now they asked me to pay 1€ to get a SMS. I did, the app got stuck, and after restarting the app the SMS code is now invalid. Now I'm stuck waiting to see if they let me request another SMS. How does anyone use this?

I'm thinking about buying a robo #vacuum. For sure i don't want it to contact manufacturer servers (privacy/dependency). ... i don't have to explain you probably.
I discovered the project #valetudo. Sounds really good. Does someone have experience how good it rooting device and afterwards using it works and give some tipps what to do?

Rooted the Dreame X40 Ultra to run Valetudo. 100% local control, zero cloud tethering, and integrated directly into Home Assistant. Amazing work to all in the Valetudo community.
Striking to realise this vacuum has more compute than the Cray supercomputer souviner on my desk.

Not gonna lie, I love the Valetudo AI Assistant!
It's based on the really advanced "Eliza as promised" model from 2017 (which is based on something from 2005), so it's basically state of the art :)
It's also really helpful, because now I have a therapist while waiting for my clinically depressed Marvin (our vacuum robot) to do the work for me.

@kuketzblog Finde es auch wirklich schwierig und nervig. Aber dieselbe Arroganz haben leider auch andere lohnenswerte #OpenSource Projekte, wie zum Beispiel #Valetudo.
Keine Ahnung, wieso man nicht einfach freundlich und unterstützend mit den Usern und der Community umgehen kann. Das ist schließlich die beste PR. Hab bei solcher Arroganz immer Angst, dass das Kermteam irgendwann hin schmeißt und man auf einen Scherbenhaufen gesetzt hat, der nicht mehr gepflegt wird. -
Oh fuck me, taking off and cleaning a wheel on #Dreame L9 (or was it L10?) requires removing both the bottom _and_ the top panels, which means undoing the cabling and separating the lidar from the mobo, and also requires removing the bumper, and the battery, and like... that's the whole robot? And most naturally, the bottom panel is held by a sealed warranty screw xDD
Whoever designed this... Well, I don't like you:)

Did anyone try to install #valetudo on a Roborock S8?
I know it is listed as unsupported but since there is a guide I just wanted to see how far I can get.

On page 26 it mentions a file called "_rr.XXX_phoenixsuit.img" which I cannot find.
As far as I can tell It is not part of the firmware package. At least not with that name. -

I had intended to install Valetudo on my robot vacuum and just never upgrade, but alas, #HomeAssistant committed the unforgivable mortal sin of changing the MQTT interchange format and warning about a deprecation... So I had to do a bunch of firmware updates. Whereupon I hit this notice: https://github.com/Hypfer/Valetudo/releases/tag/2025.03.0

Ich habe einen defekten Roborock S5 Staubsaugeroboter mit kaputter Batterie und dodgy Geräuschen an mindestens einem Rad. Geflasht mit #Valetudo. Wenn jemand Interesse hat, zu versuchen, das Ding zu reparieren, gebe ich es gerne kostenlos zur Abholung in Hamburg ab. Ansonsten kommt es irgendwann in den nächsten zwei Wochen in den Elektromüll.
