We had a good discussion on specific competencies for applied mathematics research software engineers. Anything we forgot?

It is a pleasure to present @joss at the @us_rse conference 2024 in Albuquerque this evening. Please come to the poster session and learn more about JOSS.

Two things:
- I successfully defended my PhD dissertation on Friday! Maybe I can finally start having a life again...
- I'm in ABQ for US-RSE'24 (#usrse #usrse24 @us_rse) and compiled this Google Maps list (46 places!) from the "What to do in ABQ" presentation by Miranda Mundt posted ~three weeks ago. Thanks Miranda for the great recommendations!@ me if it needs edits or if you'd like to be added as editor. Looking forward to the conference!

BTW, this is me fiddling around with an #Arduino project that used to work with Twitter. Going to bring it with me to the #USRSE conference to see how good the ventilation in conference rooms is. Code here: https://github.com/Aariq/co2-monitor/pull/6

Interesting talk from Daniel S. Katz about @us_rse. It looks like a lot of great grassroots activity. But it's a shame that organisations promoting openness use Zoom, YouTube, Slack, Google Drive rather then open source alternatives. Not a criticism of the US-RSE specifically; this seems to be commonplace. #USRSE #RSECon23 #OpenSource #RSE

How does it all work? Aside from workflows in our Jobs repository, most of the magic lies with https://github.com/rseng/jobs-updater/, a tool I put together that still is driving the #USRSE
bots postings. Special shout out to https://github.com/crd477/ for adding Mastodon! 💙🙏 -

Nominations are due 4 Nov 2022. See https://us-rse.org/about/election/ for more information #RSEng #USRSE
