I have been busy lately, but with many fun things!
The other day Mol Mol concluded her wearable neon class that I was helping teach at Urbanglass with a stroll around town fashion show. Oh what fun!
I had a wearable hat from awhile back, but just got helium gas and had always wanted to see it in uncoated noviol glass. It was an early neon yellow before yellow phosphor was around. The helium tends to run hot if you dont underfill it and its power hungry, while not as bright as neon gas, but its a nice yellowy and purpley glow. In the noviol its a pretty gold.
I made the halo and its clear head mount in one hour, completely from scraps in a move fast an make things, flow state. Throughout the class I acted as a neon angel- coming over to give suggestions to struggling students or sometimes just do some tricky bends for people.
So many fun students with neat ideas :)

Show coming up + commercial neon + 3 upcoming classes = oh dear I am busy.

I did make a crackle tube this week with Kacie Lees- such fun! We decided to make the upcoming crackle tube class on April 19th an 20th a Bring Your Own Glass - BYOG - to smash and put inside a tube :). The recycled aspect makes the final tube more interesting and its also just fun to smash glass every now an then. With a community of students and glass professionals- Urbanglass has some really interesting glass trash to smash.

I made a few gifs of the crackle tubes as photos can't really capture the frenetic nature of a tight fill. I also added a gif of Kacie attaching an electrode on the topo chico seltzer bottle krypton crackle tube I made. The topo bottles I smashed had enameled labels so they hold up to the heating needed to purify the glass.

A belated post from last Friday at the Urbanglass Hot Glass Hangout. It was my friend El's last hurrah before they move to LA.
This hangout was in the flame shop (in my opinion the best studio at Urbanglass) and was a three way collab to make a chandelier. El did the neon tube bits. Fran made the angel torso with penis, and Han made little critters in bubbles and chains. So much fun- that a day later I ended up with the norovirus thats been going around- should have washed my hands more :)

El an their partner Abel (who is a pro baker) inspired me to start baking bread - thats my second bread. Anyone here care to see bread? Anyone have any bread tips for sourdough starters? Otherwise, I am just gonna post them to pixelfed :)

As the studio was closing down I was able to carry out plans to sneak these pieces into the big kiln and move the manifold over for a proper bakeout. Excited to get these #borosilicate #neon pieces filled. Some #experimental #workinprogress indeed. Studio is closed today #badair, but we should be filling tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Yesterday, I found out that I can do this at Urbanglass for only $5 per hour. Yep- there is oxygen running through those torches and that is #borosilicate #glass. Available in super large sizes, those #pyrex tubes can be heated just like the neon crossfire with this setup- one quarter turn of the tube heats all sides.
Double the fire double the fun! Seen here are a 12mm tube and a 25mm tube bent just like with neon. So. Much. Heat!

I have been making a few tubes to oven pump at #urbanglass . I plan on filling this #doublerainbow I bent yesterday with #helium Along with a few other #doodles . This is the full #rainbow of #italian #effetre #murano #glass #colors . I had another helium rainbow doodle that was my helium in effetre color sample but it sold. This one is a double rainbow with new and improved bends- my bending has improved since I made the first one in 2019. #craft #brooklyn #sculpture #neon #lightart #handmade

I got a new 25mm #latex #rigatoni to fit around 25mm tubes. Super convenient for these big unobtainum 25mm hand pulled color tubes. I threw #effetre #Aquamarine in there too. I plan on filling this one with #helium at #urbanglass Its colors include r3 pink, opal violet, Aquamarine, Alabaster (white), gold amber, gold hyacinth (light), Iris violet, Iris gold, blue #Calcedony, chocolate, and what I think is regular amber (forgot and need to check my notes)
