  6. Castelluccio di Norcia sits at 1,452m in the Apennines. Famed for its vibrant spring lentil blooms, it carries heavy scars from the 2016 earthquakes. From afar, it looks like an idyllic mountain village blended into massive slopes. Up close, it’s a story of survival and slow recovery against tectonic forces. Hoping to return soon to see its progress.

  20. From today's trail inspection in Umbria, around the train station Narni-Amelia. A beautiful loop, walking along a former train track (including some exciting tunnels), the Nera River, and the valley, ending up hiking up to the medieval town of Narni and back down to Narni Scalo. Arrival from and return to Rome by train. I will write a blog post about it on my website soon with more detailed information about this trail.

  21. A street in #Todi, #Umbria, #Italy, in June 2024. The old town is on top of a steep hill. This is one of the streets we walked (!) to get to the top, before we found the funicular. Every so often we had to step aside for a car. A set of traffic lights set on corners let drivers know when to proceed through streets barely wide enough for a single car.

  22. I'm back home in #WashingtonDC after a lovely two weeks in #Italy, with with a few days each in #Umbria (rural farmhouse near #Todi), #Tuscany (just outside of #Montisi), and #Rome (#Monti neighborhood).

Awesome trip. Awesome to be home. I've missed this big doof.
