Britain is not leaving CERN. It remains the second-largest contributor, paying around £160m a year.
But while the subscription stays intact, UK funding for parts of the next generation, including LHCb Upgrade II and the CMS upgrade, is being reduced.
The government once promised to “unlock the full potential” of CERN membership.
Three years later, the contradiction is in its own documents.
