"From Gaza, we celebrate the launch of #UgandaVerified. We've learned that trust is the only lifeline; our initiatives are a struggle to ensure aid reaches those who need it most. Your donation through these trusted channels is not just assistance, it's an investment in a human life. 🤝 -
I have come today here on mastodon not to chat about #farming nor but I have come simply to raise an issue that's happening now
When a war broke out in gaza, they actually made the @gazaverified
So that they can raise funds but then I see someone here mimicking the gaza by making the #ugandaverified am from Uganda but I boycott it cause my main issue here on mastodon is to collect international ideas not money though sometimes people get interested and donate a little BOOSTS WELCOME

It warms my heart to see more #MutualAid initiatives sprout on the #Fediverse.
@ethan256 is doing a great job launching #UgandaVerified, and all of our support as #GazaVerified team goes to him.
The purpose of this initiative is similar to that of the initiative for Gaza.
When humanitarian catastrophes cut entire communities out of their sources of living, and traditional institutions fail to provide them with support, many victims may resort to social media to get their voices heard and get a lifeline through donations.
However, scammers and fraudsters also easily inject themselves into this flow of requests, which eventually makes it hard for many to distinguish legitimate requests from fraudulent ones.
Many react by simply avoiding donating altogether, even if they agree with the cause.
Grassroot verification initiatives solve exactly this problem, by verifying the legitimity of the claims through video calls with trusted local intermediaries, assuring that funds reach the right people.

New project loading! 🚀
I am planning to launch it this week.Introducing the "Uganda Verified" a platform aimed at helping identify and promote legitimate Ugandan organizations, projects, initiatives, and individuals.
The #mastodon account is already live: @uganda_verified
Follow us to stay updated as we get ready for launch.
I'm also looking for one or more volunteers who can help us set up and manage a dedicated Mastodon server for the project.
For us, verification means confirming that a person or organization is genuinely based in Uganda and that the organization or project they are promoting is properly & legally registered.
The first version will be simple. There is no backend yet, so approved profiles will be added manually while the platform continues to evolve.

@afewbugs
I got the structure, and I will start coding very soon.I am already seeing where some of these listed people belong(genuine vs scam)
Thanks for the reminder & outlining, Jules 🙏
On the other hand, please let me know if you would like to participate in the coding

Yeah, sometimes it sounds too good to be true. I always want to give peopl ethe benefit of the doubt, but there are too many warning lights on this.
We would need an #UgandaVerified mechanism...
