  1. The AI Zombification of TUAW

I’ve been reading up on this (The Verge has more details, or at least a complementary take), and in my opinion the people behind this kind of plagiarist content farming (some of wh(...)

  3. Headline: Hocked TUAW

Subtitle: #TUAW, a site that was shut down 10 years ago, was sold to a private equity firm, then to a company in Hong Kong, and has now stolen its old workers' identities and is running their old work through #AI summarizers.

  4. Jason Koebler: Hocked #TUAW

"This month, “Christina Warren” started blogging again for The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW), a legendary and long-dead Apple-centric tech news blog that she worked at more than a decade ago. Warren was for years a well-known and very good tech journalist, before she went on to work for Microsoft and GitHub. The real Christina Warren hasn’t been writing these new posts on the zombie TUAW, however. The site’s new owners have stolen her identity, replaced her photo with an AI-generated one, and have been publishing what appear to be AI-generated articles under her byline."

  6. "[TUAW], which ceased operations in 2015, began publishing “new” articles… but those posts bear the bylines of writers who last worked for #TUAW more than a decade ago. The site also has an author page featuring the names of former writers along with photos that appear to be AI-generated." Jesus, that's bad! 😬 engadget.com/apple-blog-tuaw-r

  7. And yes, this means i liveblogged the original iPhone announcement for #TUAW, which was absolutely one of my crowning achievements.

I used this janky-ass setup with my... Samsung? HTC Windows smartphone? for tethering. Apple didn't consider us press at the time so we had to buy our broke-ass ticket into the #Macworld audience.

The people around me kept asking questions about how I was live-blogging, what phone, etc etc. Weird but amazing experience.
