A trolley problem for the modern day:
"You stand in front of a magic machine. It has a number display showing a 1, a button that adds a 0 to the displayed number, and a leaver that will kill the number of richest people in the world as shown on the display.
How many 0s do you add to the number before pulling the leaver?" 🤔#philosophy #trolley_problem #capitalism #oligarchy #kleptocracy #fascism #resistance

You can ban SUV's, tax them, or impose safety regulations, but it could upset many people who own them. What do you do?

@babyfangs your analysis is inarguable from a standpoint of the logical aspect.
My assertion is that I just don't observe this sort of logical being used in actual public discourse about the sorts of ethical value tensions that the #trolley_problem is an abstract model of.
My pessimistic evaluation of the state of humanity is that it's the aesthetic preferences over the minutae that determines the choices between actions/inactions. There is the urgency and acrimony of the life or death consequences, but the functional control seems more capricious that moral.
