Episode 2 of The Beast Within Me opens with an unbelievable scene.
This show is NOT worth my time. I've learned to cut my losses rather than suffer through bad writing, especially when other aspects of a show, like the premise and acting, are good.
When the writing is this bad, I know those in charge don't have what it takes to deliver something worth my time.

Furious, and The Beast In Me, start well, despite the unbelievable scene with the lazy character trope in TBIM.
I love the original take Furious has on the jaded cop who's seen (as we meet her) and experienced too much, and drinks to get by: A dark-skinned, average-looking, soft-spoken Black woman. A first, for me.
Hope TBIM skips tropes, and Furious stays fresh.

I've found a much higher quality stream of the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the high seas than I get by paying Hulu more than $100 per month. Even at their highest tier.
Less than $10 per month.
It's much less convenient but I now I have a much wider range of options from which to choose, and can usually find 4k, Dolby (Atmos and Vision), DTS, versions of shows and movies, when those exist.
And so, we sail.

The BTK teases are only that, teases, and detract from the series for those not aware of the results, decades later.
So many avenues are opened, some explored a bit, but it's too many threads that are never joined into a useful whole.
There are good moments throughout, but none cohere with any others.
B-/C+, overall.

The rest of the season was disjointed, and ruined by the wooden acting of Groff and Torv, and the meandering "plot" that kept building to..nothing, ultimately.
The chilling, gripping interviews are absent, and the show sinks without them.
The Tench plot line is an interesting element, but not fully developed.

Cutting back on subscription services, I've cancelled HBO and Apple One, and downgraded to ad-supported Live TV Hulu/Disney Plus.
No change to Peacock since that's bundled with the internet service required for my mom's landline.
#Stremio, #Torrentio, #TorBox, #AllDebrid, and #AIOStreams for a total of $3 per month has been working well, with some minor hassles and glitches.
So far, good enough so I don't feel I'm losing much. In fact, I've been watching shows I couldn't before.

Kinda like The Wire with a core cast dealing with different cases each season, and a central narrative connecting them.
Lots of good actors throughout. It *was* streaming on Hulu, delayed a couple of seasons; Peacock's streaming 4 of 6 seasons, and I just read on Wikipedia that season 7 is coming in 2027.
I use this combo ($3/month, total) to stream most content now. Imperfect, but good.

The first 2 episodes of season 2, also directed by Fincher, are really good.
I especially love the way Ford got scorched; it was so satisfying 👏🏿
It has me so paranoid that I doubted the cop at the end of episode 2 was legit, and not just casing the house.
Really felt intentional 😅😮💨

Despite its deliberate pacing and near hour long length, every episode seems to fly by.
I just finished season one and the show is really good, even with the skips in time and details
A nice touch with Fincher directing the first two and last two episodes.
And Holden is an insufferable, smug prick whose obsession mirrors his subjects, and proves #ACAB.

Four episodes in and it's moving at an extremely deliberative pace; a slow peeling of layers with hints of more direct action (things progressing, not "boom, pow!").
Right now it's still in Bolero mode; repeating elements slowly heating up.

It's interesting, but I'm not sure yet if I'm going to like it. The lead is constantly unable to make himself understood, and his job is understanding people (for the FBI). 🤔
Also, the young guy "shaking things up" faced with dismissiveness alternating with hostile resistance before ultimately being proven correct is a "meh" premise.
It's ok to use it, but so far it's the bulk of his occupational story.

I started watching Mindhunter last night and it's not at all what I expected.
Only the name and basic premise of the show were familiar to me and I had no idea that David Fincher directed at least some episodes, including the first two, and Charlize Theron is an Executive Producer.

I've recently had great success using a combination of tools streaming movies and shows (including 4K, DolbyVision, IMAX DTS, etc) on my Sony Google TV.
Took me a little work to figure it all out and land on what's so far been a solid combination, for a total of $3 U.S. per month:

It works without TorBox, but poorly for most content.

TorBox also seems to be much cheaper, $3 per month versus the $4, 15 day trial for Real Debrid.
After a few days, TorBox has been working at least as well as Real Debrid, much better, even, when factoring in the torrents Real Debrid removed that I was immediately able to access again using TorBox.

I have since learned troubling things about Real Debrid, including their deletion of torrent caches, and their threat to release a user's logs because the user criticized Real Debrid's removal of torrents (not actual copyrighted content) in unnecessary compliance with, I believe, a DMCA takedown request.
Thus defeating the entire premise of the service for which we pay.
I've switched to TorBox.
Both services highly rated 🤷🏿♂️

Google TV gave me an ad for Citadel, another over-the-top spy thriller, this one from Amazon.
I added it to my Stremio and just finished the first episode..😮💨
You know the criticism of Netflix shows being overly explanatory and repetitive? Well, this episode is almost entirely that.
Definitely the most clear example of this apparent phenomenon I've seen in a while, from start to literal end.
Glad I didn't pay to see this.

I've realized that I should restart Babylon Berlin because I've completely lost track of all the many pieces leading up to Season 4.
It was always a struggle for me to understand everything that was happening so having years between watching seasons 3 and 4 had me lost watching S4:E1.

Last night I rewatched the final scene of Peaky Blinders, Season 5, Episode 6 and I still think it's a perfect place to end the series.
I've read that many enjoyed Season 6 (I've read nothing about the movie) but I've been burned by series, so I'm reluctant to watch any more.
I *knew* the bridge scene was the perfect ending for Killing Eve but I doubted myself and was casually, cruelly, betrayed.
There have been others.

I'd only watched the first 2 episodes of Season 6 of Black Mirror before the strikes and my cancellation of Netflix.
I've finished the season this week and along with Joan is Awful, Beyond the Sea is excellent, and Mazey Day and Demon 79 are very good.
Every season since 3 has one episode I really don't like (or hate). Loch Henry is one of the worst of the series.

I broke down and paid for a 15 day trial of Real Debrid (about $4) and that seems to be the piece that was missing for a very smooth, though not literally instant (as claimed) streaming experience.
After one night watching a couple of shows with no problems that either loaded very slowly (Black Doves) or weren't really watchable due to constant buffering (Dark Winds), I think I have a solid combo of tools running for smooth sailing on the high seas 🏴☠️
