#toponium — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #toponium, aggregated by home.social.

  1. Observation of a cross-section enhancement near the #toponium production threshold in sqr(s) = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector: cds.cern.ch/record/2937636?ln= -> Suddenly Visible - New Particle Challenges Long-Held Assumptions: uni-hamburg.de/en/newsroom/pre

  2. Remember how the mean life of the top quark is so short that it couldn't possibly form a bound state? Well, forget all that.
DESY and CERN now provide strong evidence for the existence of toponium:

    "

I couldn't really find good explanations on why the #toponium results from CERN are so important. Fortunately, after a bit of tweaking, #ChatGPT came to the rescue. Can you identify where I made corrections? (Yes, always proofread what ChatGPT gives, peeps!) Or maybe you can do better? I'd love to see!

I have many questions! Maybe the fediverse can help? ♥️🤓

Maybe most central: I thought the top quark is a fermion? And if so, must obey the Pauli exclusion principle. Then how can 2 top quarks occupy the same point in space? Does that not imply it must be a new fundamental particle on its own?
