  1. it's not too hot and my urgent todo list is lighter than usual, so it's time for #todaysBikeRide and #geohash expedition again!

The geohash was in an unremarkable sunflower field, so I stopped 11m away, staying on the road. Good enough for me. I found an abandoned bus from the city of Nevers, pretty much the other side of France, with a very late 1990s livery. Also went to the nearby artificial lake and found "interesting" things in the tiny library

  6. #TodaysBikeRide , a short one because I'm feeling a bit tired and uninspired for places to visit.

  7. Anyway, in #todaysBikeRide I visited the town of Sainte Foy d'Aigrefeuille. Had plans for a longer ride but it was too hot (36 degrees C), so, not today. Stopped there and went home by the shortest path, stopping at various football fields along the way to get water (apparently all football fields have shoe washing stations nearby with tap water and brushes?) and try to refresh myself (but even the tap water was hot)

  8. #todaysBikeRide trying new freshly opened pedestrian/cycles bridges!

  9. #todaysbikeride and #geohash expedition was supposed to be a simple and quickly done thing. The target point is just 5km from home.

That was counting without the strong headwind and one of my tires experiencing a Rapid Unscheduled Decompression event, about 1km before reaching the target, so I had to walk the remaining distance and then all the way back home, while carrying the bike (I didn't take my bike lock with me, so I couldn't leave it at the accident place and recover it on the way back)

  14. #TodaysBikeRide and #Geohash expedition. It's been a while since I went out! Well I guess the 3 day weekend helps with recovering from a week of work, doing chores, and then having abit of time and energy left. I should do that more often.

Anyways, thegeohash point today was in someone's garden, and unfortunately they are not playing geohash. So I could not get closer than16m in the backalley.

It' s been a while! (well actually I did a shorter ride last week but didn't post about it)

Today was 2x 30km to visit a friend in her new house (quite far from mine). The return was a night ride. About 1h45-2h in each direction, due to hills and, let's be honest, lack of training. Doing the same trihs around my home every week is not so much fun. Geohashing challenges me but usually leads to unremarkable places (that's kind of the point)

  20. No serious #TodaysBikeRide lately (visiting family, and also outside temperatures are above human-survivable levels). But here are some pictures taken while not on a bike ride

  21. #TodaysBikeRide is a #GeoHash expedition alongsioe the Garonne's Lateral Canal to Eurocentre, a logistics platform north of Toulouse with lots of warehouse, a mail sorting center and the like. Nothing new for me: I used to work there a few years ago, when the owner of a company I worked (as a software engineer) for decided he didn't want to waste time in traffic jams entering the city, and moved us outside the city. Leading to several of us finding other jobs nearer to home.

  26. In #TodaysBikeRide it's time to check on how the construction work for metro line B prolongation in Ramonville is going!

We start just behind the current terminus station. Here the work is in progress to start digging with a tunnel boring machine just after the current end of the line.

  27. #TodaysBikeRide and #GeoHash expedition brings us to the village of St Sernin, once again in the middle of a field, but I got quite close this time

  32. #TodaysBikeRide and #GeoHash expedition. Once again the target point was in the middle of a field, but I got "close enough". It was very slightly raining during 2 hours while I was out. The sun came out just as I came back home.

  36. #TodaysBikeRide to the "new" convention/event center (built in 2020, but I hadn't visited it yet. Huge building, lots of concrete and no vegetation anywhere. Built quite outside the city (1h bike or public transport, with the tramway line to nowhere ending here). Most of the building is actually a huge car park. Not what I expected in this century…

  37. #TodaysBikeRide
Nice weather, sunny but not too hot, blooming flowers. Much more enjoyable than riding in the winter!
The unremarkable office building in one of the pictures is where I used to work for 5 years. We moved down the street ~a year ago and it's being demolished now to make space for an above-ground subway extension. So here's a picture of it before it's gone.I won't really miss it, it had awful thermal isolation (walls built of metal sheets and single pane glass).

  38. #TodaysBikeRide and #GeoHash expedition. The target point was not quite reachable (would have to go down a few meters, seemed somewhat dangerous, and no road on the downhill side to get back). And then it started raining, so I didn't stay there very long.
Fun thing found nearby: some person owning a closed restaurant which has a Google Maps pin saying "PLEASE DELETE THIS"

  39. #TodaysBikeRide

Explored a few new cyclepaths and alleys I didn't know. A bit too twisty or slippery for speeding around (didn't really feel like it anyway… really failing my goal of going out once a week and so I'm not super trained), but not too much people and no cars.

  40. #TodaysBikeRide
It was ok, nice weather but I'm feeling a bit tired, so kept it short and avoided places with too much hills (which is not so easy arould here)

  41. #TodaysBikeRide 1h15 and about 30km to go to a choir rehearsal weekend. For me it's a pretty normal trip. A lot of people in the choir think I'm crazy or it's an amazing achievement.
No pictures, not a very interesting ride and there was some mist. Maybe tomorrow on the way back (which will be around sunset, may get some interesting lighting, we'll see)

  42. #TodaysBikeRide and #geohash expedition. I couldn't reach the exact geohash point as I didn't want to step or ride into a freshly planted field. Well, I got close enough, and the fun part is the journey to get there anyways.

  43. #todaysbikeride
Short ride, still not feeling super great (but maintenance on the oike helped a bit). Hopefully I can attempt something a bit longer next week without being out of breath after 100 meters…

  44. #todaysbikeride
On the banks of the Garonne and Ariège rivers.
Started with the telepheric, nice view from up there and you can also see the radio antennas at Pech David (highest point in Toulouse), for FM radio, cellphones, and other private networks.
There is a river crossing boat but it was closed today due to too low water levels.
And that building is part of a drinking water production plant/pumping station.

  45. #todaysbikeride
Planned a shorter ride today because I didn't go out for about a month (due to a mix of temperatures and having other plans for my weekends). I was in better condition than expected, should have planned it a little longer.
Also at one point I had to backtrack a bit (just a few meters) because someone said I was on private property, not sure if true or not (it was an unpaved road but it was not marked private by google maps, who is usually very eager to mark things as orivate)

  46. #todaysbikeride
Weather is back to non-lethal levels today so I went out.
Visited the Issus-Aussaguel space communications center, which is part of the infrastructure providing satellite internet access to boats and ships in the Atlantic Ocean

  47. #todaysbikeride
Staying on flat roads once again, but went for a bit longer route so it still was 2+ hours. Weather was ok, there were some clouds so it wasn't too hot. Will probably be worse next week as the weather predictions plans for 40°C.

Found this concrete footbridge over the Canal du Midi, a change from the traditional local bricks :)

  48. #todaysbikeride
I went for a route with few hills this week so it was much better. Still not able to climb the one uphill section however. And of course, no hills means less spectacular views, so here's a picture of a church I passed by, and a roundabout with a shiny metal planet (with saturn-like rings) sculpture, at the entrance of the CNES.

  49. #todaysbikeride
Finally boarded the new telepheric which opens some new route options for me. Then tried to take a shortcut back home. Lots of unpaved roads/dirt trails again, but this time they were not wet and slippery at least.
I had not been out for a few weeks, so stayed mosly on flat ground near the Garonne and Ariège rivers, and walked a lot in the uphill sections.
Also I should buy new tires and some way to carry water with me
