  1. (1/2) This #TodayExplained [PODCAST] episode includes a great discussion about AI’s impact on book publishing, but it misses a crucial nuance: HOW AI is used matters far more than “just whether it’s used.” The final author describes training an AI on her own writing until its output became indistinguishable from her own, a very different scenario than an editor allegedly using AI to ghostwrite a novel. We need to move past the binary thinking that AI use is simply on or off. The better questions

  2. Very good explainer of the results of the national #elections in #Germany two days ago:

"Germany’s rightward swing, explained – How to make sense of the German elections"

If you have listen to this episode of #TodayExplained which was also aired on several #NPR stations, you will understand how concerning it is that the #Trump administration endorses the radical right wing / fascist German party called #AfD.

  3. I’m not a huge fan of Vox’s #TodayExplained podcast, but their episode on Trump’s stump speech inclusion of the “late, great Hannibal Lecter” matches the energy and craziness of the former President pretty well: megaphone.link/VMP1126843056

  4. Oof what a terrible take from . Aren’t long covid cases still sitting at 10% of infections? In what world is that “most people” recovering with no problems?

We’re going to look back on this time with a lot of regret. Or we’ll cure long covid and I’ll look like I’m crazy. Either way, I’ll wear a mask, thanks very much.

  5. A growing number of county sheriffs believe they hold ultimate power in their jurisdictions. Some have even stopped enforcing state and federal laws they deem unconstitutional. The Marshall Project’s Maurice Chammah explains.

This episode was produced by Hady Mawajdeh, edited by Matt Collette, fact-checked by Laura Bullard, engineered by Paul Robert Mounsey, and hosted by Noel King.

  6. CW: Voter Turnout

Given the US #elections, #TodayExplained is running their episode on compulsory #voting in Australia. Very interesting but what I find absolutely fascinating is the near-80%-turnout in the Netherlands. My #EasternEuropean parents actually couldn't believe it's not mandatory when they heard these statistics. Lowest I've seen in the last decades is 73%!
