  1. @nonmateria The newsletter and form is the toughest aspect… I wonder what fedi friends have done after the demise of #TinyLetter?

  3. I forgot to mention: currently there is a new message on #TinyLetter that says:

'As of Feb. 29, 2024, TinyLetter will be discontinued. Make sure to export all your data before then. You can pick up where you left off with Mailchimp – new customers get a 1-month free trial.'

I hope to find a good alternative before I start a new project. Thanks.

  4. If you’re affected by the shutdown, please reach out and I’ll help you migrate to Keila for free

  5. Perhaps there could be a public form where people could submit their #TinyLetter Archive URL for discovery by an archiving bot? Or does a directory already exist?

I guess it would be difficult to know if the author really wants it saved in perpetuity, unless it was possible to come up with a recognizable phrase email authors could send that indicated their consent?

That would be kind of poignant, to see one last collective email from all those newsletters that want to live on in an archive...

  6. People who want to preserve their #TinyLetter content should probably ensure that their posts are added to their public archive so that Internet Archive and others might be able to pick them up?

  7. I'm just noticing via @adamgreenfield that #TinyLetter is shutting down in a few months:

Tinyletter really brought back email as a social media form, and encouraged personal, long form, more intimate writing in a time when platforms were causing major discursive havoc and turning us against each other.

  8. I've successfully migrated from to @buttondown, took a few hours but mostly painless (and I like the subscribe form embed).

  9. Folks!

    TinyLetter is closing down 😭

That's how Jonathan and I got in touch with folks about Queer Out Here (an audio zine that explores the outdoors from queer perspectives). What are good free alternative newsletter services?

We have a low number of subscribers and only send a newsletter every three months or so. We don't need anything fancy.

    Boosting much appreciated.

  10. I know some folks who used #TinyLetter as lightweight blogs as well as for mailing lists. I hope they, and anyone else who linked to Tinyletter content, migrate or preserve it before the site shuts down at the end of February: theverge.com/2023/11/29/239813

  11. Mailchimp is shutting down #TinyLetter theverge.com/2023/11/29/239813 .

I love Buttondown and it's the #newsletter service I use. Indie, GREAT personal customer support, very nice default styling, all the options I want including ones to protect my readers' privacy.

@[email protected] @[email protected] is ready to help you migrate: buttondown.email/blog/dear-tin

  12. Marketing automation platform Mailchimp plans to shut down its newsletter service, #TinyLetter, on February 29, 2024, to focus on its core product. Current users can still access and export data, but new registrations have been disabled.

  13. counterintuit mailblimp's is going away, also nuking your archives, because their "business priorities have evolved"

  14. If you had a #tinyletter it's time to archive it.

“Intuit Mailchimp recently announced its decision to sunset TinyLetter and focus on our core Mailchimp marketing product.”

  15. Mailchimp bought TinyLetter, and is now closing TinyLetter down.

This is why we can't have nice things.

  16. I have been wanting to start an email newsletter to let friends and family know about gigs and radio shows and so on (instead of relying on social media) and after doing some research I settled on TinyLetter as the best service for my modest needs. Was thinking about getting it started this month, so of course I just got an email from MailChimp saying they're shutting down TinyLetter.

MailChimp does offer a free service, but I took a look at it and hated what I saw. So it goes.

  17. #TinyLetter is shutting down entirely next year. Boo.

  18. i've used #tinyletter for my personal news updates for the past few years, which is easy enough to port, but i also spent a year doing a really detailed newsletter about #psychedelics, which will soon be summarily zapped from existence. wonder how many years #substack has? tinyletter.com/HeadsNews/archi

  19. another one bites the dust: #tinyletter is deleting everything on february 29th, including old newsletter archives, because tech companies are apparently bound by law to torch archives when they leave. fuck 'em all. #mailchimp

  20. What's our fav free-tier these days? etc? This would be for a bunch of small orgs with lists generally less than 200 members. Currently they're just managing BCC lists from their personal email 🤮

  21. appears to be off the naughty list for Google Safe Browsing, hopefully that means I can continue using them as a newsletter service for the next article at least. Phew! 😰

Still looking at alternatives, buttondown.email looks like a good one that lets you completely disable click tracking.

  22. Looks like link tracking service is getting marked as malicious by Safe Browsing, so now all my newsletter links are getting shown as malicious... is this impacting anyone else using Tinyletter?
