Three of Thurston Bluejay’s offsprings just came to get nuts. All came to the railing while I stood there. A few times. Thurston as well—she’s the only one who takes the nuts from my hands.

When there are five bluejays here, it’s probably safer for all the little birds. From the Cooper’s hawk that prowls around here, I mean.
Btw, that’s a new littlebirds peanut basket I crocheted a few nights ago.

“The Blue Bird” by Maurice Maeterlinck was one of the books that left an impression on me in my youth. And the Thurstons (the bluejay family that come here for nuts) remind me of it often.
