  1. 'Ridgeway trail: Land Rover driver denies dangerous driving'

    readingchronicle.co.uk/news/24

'The Ridgeway, which runs through the North Wessex Downs, is renowned as one of England's most beautiful sites. It is Britain’s oldest road and follows the same route over the high ground used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers. It runs for 87 miles through several counties including Berkshire and Wiltshire.'

  2. @mappery That brings me back to the two hottest days of the year, when I decided to walk 30km/day with too little water.

Great #hiking adventure on #TheRidgeway though!

  3. Today I went along the 😀 I managed to go 13 miles, though it was a really hard slog at the end!
I went past Wayland's Smithy, Castle, and a LOT of hedgerows ... here's a little thread of photos I took:

  5. I've successfully made it from Overton Hill to Ivanhoe Beacon, the full length of #TheRidgeWay at 139km.

It started with two 35km walks in 30°C, and this last walk was a lovely 25km one with all the #AutumnColours, mostly with sunshine.

The full story and photos will follow.

  6. This is a memorial to Brigadier General Robert James Loyd-Lindsay, 1st Baron Wantage (1832-1901; VC, KCB, VD) that I stopped at on today.

It was utterly out of place - a strange oddity at the top of a field.

He looks to have been an interesting chap (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert), but coming across this weathered totem really put me in mind of :

"Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

  7. And I'm done: 25km of from Goring to Court Hill. I'm spent.
