I don't mean to brag but my weekend is probably going better than yours...

(Yes it's actually being broadcast)

'Ultimate Ninja' was part of the Ocho earlier: it's obstacle racing, which is trying to get Olympic attention as part of the new-look modern pentathlon. Because of Ninja Warrior's influence 'ninja' is just a basic word in the sport now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPgjKYBCquA
Big difference here, a single failure doesn't mean you're done. Unlike a TV show, they don't want to leave the outcome up to the order in which they happen to present the obstacles to you.

Catching up on overnight Ocho happenings, which is getting towards wrapping up, and among the overnight events was sign spinning.
At the 'championship' level, honestly, it becomes less "sign spinning" and more "rhythmic gymnastics with a sign apparatus". This would not look out of place in a bonafide rhythmic gymnastics competition. (Aside from the fact that rhythmic gymnastics is women-only at international level.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiD5xe0kuMg

Electric scooter racing now... and let me tell you, electric scooters can get surprisingly zoomy. Also they have a push-to-pass mechanic ala IndyCar.
-
What we can see from the Crossnet game they're showing is, if square 4 can't hold the line, you can go a long while with no points going on the board.... but if square 4 can defend, they can run off and hide in a hurry. Nothing happens until it happens all at once.
Also it's in the Ocho subgenre of 'games invented so they can sell it to you at your local retailer'.
-
Crossnet now. It's four-square volleyball. The way it works, there's four numbered squares, only the team in square 4 is able to accumulate points... and they even say, it makes for an obvious core strategy: if you're not in square 4, target square 4. (After every point, the team that lost the point comes off the court, and everyone else rotates toward square 4.)

Meanwhile on ESPN8: The Ocho - It’s the USA Dodgeball Showcase, featuring a battle between Stars and Stripes!!!!!!!
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - CORGI RACE FROM EMERALD DOWNS!!!!!!!!!

Beer stein holding. Actually a strongman event when done at a higher level, but there's really not too much to it. Here's a beer stein, hold it out in front of you.
Pictured: the basic concept when done in World's Strongest Man.

Next up on the Ocho is footgolf.
It's golf. On a golf course. But you have a soccer ball, appropriately enlarged holes, you have only two clubs and they're both underneath your naughty bits.
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - it’s the Pillow Fight Chanpionship.
It’s more intense than boxing, as some would say.
-
Wrapping up the cornhole segment, and we're about to move on to 'Viii Sports'... which is 8 sports in a kind of obstacle race-type thing: golf, softball, tennis, basketball, football, soccer, 'strength', and 'speed'. Points are scored for each element (max of 6 possible per sport) as well as time taken to get through the lot (2 possible bonus points here), total of 50 points on offer.
It's kinda a lot. Obstacle course-type things are always a pain to try and explain.
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - It’s a big cornhole action, the ACL SuperHole IV Championship.
Who will take the crown tonight?
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - Big Major League Table Tennis action between Team David vs Team Joannie.
-
Table tennis is a weird fit for the Ocho. This is literally an Olympic sport.
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - Its a fun and fast paced Wiffleball action between Team Red vs Team Blue.

Wiffleball gets 2 hours of Ocho time next up.
If you haven't seen elite-tier wiffleball I implore you to check it out. A wiffleball in the right hands is physics gone wrong.

Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - It’s the Ocho Show with Marty Smith and Ryan McGee!!!!!

God I love Ocho Day. I want so many Ocho Days. Show me *every sport.* Show me every kind of possible competitive recreational endeavor done at the most elite level possible. Show me every conceivable way in which we as people can push the limits of what we know to be possible. And show me people having fun doing it.
-
Maybe not spin on the kicking, but there is spin on the *pitching.* There's a rule that says the pitcher must bounce the ball twice before it reaches home plate, so there's some cricket-like spin bowling going on. Except it's not a small, hard ball being hit with a bat, it's a large, rubber ball being hit with your foot.
The competition specifically is known as Turf Wars if you want to check it out. There's some good stuff going on here.
-
Next up is kickball, and I'm really interested to see this one. You likely haven't played since elementary school, but at an elite level I can very much envision some soccer free-kick nonsense being imported to kickball in order to dodge fielders.
-
The "Professional Cuesports League" now on the Ocho... and man I remember when Allison Fisher had her own normal ESPN timeslot battling Jeannette Lee instead of being relegated to the Ocho.
They made some new cuesport variant that feels like they're trying to do a smaller version of snooker on a side of the Atlantic that doesn't really have snooker tables, do they have to scale it down for a smaller pool table.
-
Omegaball's on the Ocho presently. It's 'what if someone did those three-way-soccer experiments but actually for real made it into a proper sport'.
Mechanically as a sport I have some notes. The natural flow of travel, being three-way on a (small) circular pitch, trends things too much towards the ball going out of bounds all the time... and a three-way game trends to one team being identified as the weak link and all the scoring being done on them.
-
Now on ESPN8: The Ocho - Omegaball Men’s Invitational.
A twist on soccer with three teams, three goals and potential chaos in close match.
-
Disc golf now up, which I'd think would be above having to settle for a spot on the Ocho but probably couldn't score a better broadcast deal somewhere else.
It's really a fascinating question, going down the list of each sport the Ocho takes in: how truly Ocho is it. What brought them here to this place for supposedly obscure and bizarre sports which sometimes stretch the definition of sport to its breaking point. What are YOU doing here, disc golf?
-
So the second round of the air guitar competition is they spin a wheel to perform to one of six compulsory songs... the one the first person drew has lyrics that just repeat 'ESPN' over and over so you know they might be aware of being on the Ocho and also there's ESPN signs and they hyped the Ocho to the crowd
-
The air guitar broadcast is really whipping through contestants and scoring, too fast to get any real idea how the judges are seeing the things they're seeing.
But then I'm thinking about it probably more than they are.

Just saw a friend sharing this memory from five years ago on Facebook showing the ESPN account then mentioning that on this day in 2004 the Globo Gym Purple Cobras blew a four-man advantage against Average Joe's Gym in the American Dodgeball Association of America Tournament.
