Best known for his intense, moving portrayal of Father Damien Karras in #TheExorcist (1973), he reprised the role in William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist III (1990), with other roles including the inmate staging Shakespeare with dogs in Blatty's sublime #TheNinthConfiguration (1980).
