Why does it seem like they don't care how much damage they do in the process? Why are they constantly wingeing on about "existential threat" when they demonstrate no real intention to slow down?
Because it's not about "AI". It's not about technology. It's not even, ultimately, about money. It's about the difference between terminal extinction and final extinction, the technoligarchy's fierce commitment to avoid the latter, and their keen desire to bring about the former. And the public discourse, especially by the press, is missing the plot.
